"Welcome to New York." —Abel to Blackswan during their first date.

"My first decree? Destroy this damned city myself! What better way to mark my return than to destroy the city my half-brother has grown to love?" —Cain.

Location Name: New York City.

AKA: New Amsterdam (original colony name ), Abel's City, God's Angel's City, Home (by Abel and his family), Rex King's Turf, Blackswan's Turf (after becoming queenpin of New York), NY, NYC, The City, the Big Apple, the Capital of the Worldthe City that Never Sleeps, City Prime, Concrete Jungle Where Dreams Are Made Of, the Center of the Universe, Empire State City, America's City, Fun City, Fear City (by various policemen), the Modern Gomorrah, the Greatest City in the World, the Melting Pot, the Five Boroughs, Gateway to America, the Modern Babylon, the American Rome, the World’s City, the Immigrant City, City of Dreams, the City So Nice They Named It Twice, the Crown Jewel of America, the Most Dangerous City in America, the Crime Capital of the World, the Mob City, Metropolis, Gotham.

New York, often called New York City (NYC) to distinguish it from the state of New York, and colloquially known as the Big Apple, is the largest city and largest metropolitan area, by population, in the United States of America, and is one of the largest cities on Earth. It is also America's most iconic city, and is one the most famous cities in Earth's history and beyond. It is an international center for politics, finance, theater, music, fashion, and culture. The city is home to many landmarks including the Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building, Flatiron Building, Chrysler Building, the UN Headquarters, and Saint Patrick's Cathedral. Another world famous landmark, the World Trade Center, also known as the Twin Towers, adorned the skyline until the 9/11 terrorist attacks. NYC is also the adopted hometown of Heaven's greatest champion, Abel.

New York's history in the Monztarverse more or less mirrors that of its real world counterpart.

Overview: The history of New York City is long and complex, shaped by Indigenous cultures, European colonization, immigration, industrial growth, and its rise as a global center of finance, culture, and politics. Many millennia ago, a rookie Abel just starting out in his hero career, battled an evil warlock and buried him alive beneath what would one day become Times Square. It is alleged that while the warlock laid underground dead, his evil essence seeped into the soil, poisoning the ground with his dark, corrupt touch. In time, that warlock came back from the dead, as a child of Cain, a vampire.

Long before European settlers came to America, the land was already inhabited by Native American tribes that formed part of the Iroquois Confederacy. Living in villages along rivers and the East coast, these indigenous tribes would sustain themselves via fishing, farming, and trade networks that connected them to other Native tribes throughout the Northeast. A mysterious shaman came to them one day, proclaiming to be a holy messenger. Within short order, however, that shaman, the vampiric warlock Abel had felled eons ago, took control of the Indian tribes and proved to be a cruel and evil tyrant. The Natives' chieftain, demanded that the shaman leave the tribes and banished him. Unfortunately, the vampire shaman would not be silenced, and he struck down the Chieftain with his staff, killing him. The other Indians revolted against the shaman. They shot him with their arrows, one had pierced his heart. The vampire shaman didn't die though, so the Natives sealed him inside a cave, staking him to the cave's floor with a bone spear blessed by the Great Spirit, and blocked the exit with large boulders. They erected a totem in front of the tomb, as a warning sign of the evil that resided within. Some sources cite that the Vampire Shaman emerged from the cave and used his power to cause a blight across the land. As such, the Indians had little choice but to abandon their homes in search of fertile ground.

In the early 1600s, the Dutch West India Company established a colony in the region, New Amsterdam (Dutch: Nieuw Amsterdam). It grew as a trading hub for fur and other goods. The Dutch had built defensive walls around New Amsterdam (which later inspired the name of Wall Street). In 1653, New Amsterdam was chartered as a city. The city would come under English control in 1664 and was renamed New York after King Charles II of England granted the lands to his brother, the Duke of York. The city was regained by the Dutch in July 1673 and was renamed New Orange for one year and three months; the city has been continuously named New York since November 1674. In a tale lost to history, the Dutch West India Company had also established another colony further up the Hudson river. These colonists came upon the sealed cave with the Indian totem erected before it. Unaware of its significance, they ignored the totem's warning and loosed the Vampire Shaman from the cave. The colonists were never seen again. Two days later, men from New Amsterdam came to visit their inland brothers. When they arrived in the village, they found the town deserted. Pools of blood dotted the streets, but there were no bodies. A trapper claimed to have seen the apparition of a naked Indian walking away from the settlement into the woods. Some time later, Abel, now a far more experienced hero and demon slayer, would return and slay the Vampire Shaman for good.

In the late 18th Century, the American Revolutionary War, also known as America's War for Independence began. It was an armed conflict between the British Empire and the thirteen original North American colonies, which had declared themselves the independent United States of America. New York was one of the major battlegrounds of the war. In 1776, the British defeated American forces led by George Washington in the Battle of Long Island. The city then served as the British military headquarters for the remainder of the war. British troops would continue to occupy New York until the year 1783, when they evacuated following American victory. After the USA's independence, New York would quickly become one of the most important cities in the new growing nation.

New York City was the capital of the United States from 1785 until 1790, and has been the largest US city since 1790. Its growth accelerated with the opening of the Erie Canal, which linked Atlantic trade with the American interior, transforming New York into the dominant port of the United States. The Statue of Liberty greeted millions of immigrants, many of them hailing from European countries, fleeing famine and political unrest, and seeking oportunity on American soil, as they came to the US by ship in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and is a symbol of the US and its ideals of liberty and peace. Many of these immigrants first entered the United States through Ellis Island. These immigrants would then go on to build neighborhoods, industries, and cultural communities that further shaped the city’s identity.

During the 20th century, New York became the financial capital of the world. The district around Wall Street emerged as its center of global finance. Its skyline transformed, with the construction of skyscrapers such as the Empire State Building and the Chrysler Building. The city became not just an economic powerhouse, but also became a cultural powerhouse as well. Harlem became the center of African American arts during the Harlem Renaissance. Broadway emerged as the world’s leading theater district. After WW2, New York further strengthened its global influence when the UN established its headquarters in the city.

However, New York would also face major challenges along the way, including economic crises and rising crime rates that began since the 1970s. New York indeed became a bustling hub of industry. However, it also became a haven for crime. Even before the modern age, New York was already on its way of gaining its infamous reputation for being a city of crime and political corruption. Prosperity was accompanied by organized crime syndicates and political corruption within the mayoral office. Powerful criminal organizations gradually infiltrated all of New York's institutions, including the NYPD and City Hall. Mob bosses such as Scarface and Discordia Pandemonium effectively controlled large swathes of the city. Scarface was also the "Boss of Bosses," which ruled over the other gang leaders of NYC. New York's criminal underbelly would soon see the rise of someone far worse than Scarface, when corrupt businessman and mad scientist Rex King positioned himself as the de facto owner of NY, and eventually, the entire Earth, as his company, Rextronics, had interests in virtually every business venue and crime syndicate based in New York. With Rex King's arrival, New York's traditional mob families and gangs began to collapse, and were forced to submit themselves to Rex in order to survive. Alongside Rex King, also came costumed supervillains to New York's underworld, followed by the monsters and the demons. Those things that go bump in the night, which science cannot explain. Creatures which the NYPD were absolutely unprepared to face.

The city would experience one of its darkest moments yet, when on September 11, terrorists linked to Al-Qaeda flew two airplanes into the World Trade Center towers, which resulted in the deaths of thousands of innocent people. This in turn, would result in the US Government carrying out its War on Terror against the Middle East for many years. Americans were traumatized. They donated food, money, supplies, and time for the recovery effort. They protested together to demonstrate their unity and resolve. Unknown to the public, the events of 9/11, and everything else that would follow as a result of 9/11, was all part of Rex King and the Illuminati's then-latest plan to resurrect Cain. They had hoped that all the negative energy amased by the misery 9/11 had caused worldwide, would grant the Emperor of Hell the power that would allow him to return to the world of the living once again. However, thanks to Abel's intervention, that plan was foiled, and Cain was denied his chance to resurrect, for now. In time, Abel and his family would move to the state of New York, and Abel quickly established himself as the city's main protector. The work Abel does for NYC cannot be measured, either through philanthropical work in his human identity, or via crimefighting and monster slaying as his true angelic self. He has helped police and politicians whenever he could and felt is was right to do so. In return, the people of New York grew to love Abel (much to Rex's dismay), or rather, "Bibleman", the media's name for Abel's angelic form, and New York consequently became known among the hero community as "Abel's City."

Today, New York is one of the world's most populous megacities. It has been described as the cultural, financial, and media capital of the world, and is a significant influence on commerce, entertainment, research, technology, education, politics, tourism, dining, art, fashion, and sports. It is a global node of creativity, entrepreneurship, and environmental sustainability, and as a symbol of freedom and cultural diversity. It is the most photographed city on Earth. Home to the headquarters of the UN, New York is an important center for international, and planetary diplomacy for both Earthlings and Offworlders, and is often described as the capital of the world, despite it not being officially designated as Earth's capital.

Description: New York City is the largest city in the United States and one of the most influential urban centers on the Monztarverse Earth, just like in the real world. Located in the state of New York on the northeastern coast of the United States, the city sits at the mouth of the Hudson River where it meets the Atlantic Ocean. Its natural harbor helped it grow into one of the busiest ports and most important economic centers in Earth's history. Often called “The City That Never Sleeps,” New York is famous for its scenic towering skyline, and cultural impact. The city is made up of five boroughs; Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Staten Island, each with its own neighborhoods and history. New York is also one of the most diverse cities in human and zooanthrope history. Millions of immigrants from around the world, and from outisde it as of late, have settled there over the past centuries, creating neighborhoods filled with different languages, cuisines, religions, and traditions. Areas like Chinatown, Little Italy, Harlem, and Jackson Heights, reflect the city’s extraordinary cultural mix. Beyond culture and finance, New York is also a center for media and communication. Major television networks, publishing companies, film studios, and news organizations operate from the city, giving it enormous influence over global information and entertainment. Today, New York City remains a symbol of opportunity, ambition, and resilience. Its fast pace, towering architecture, multicultural and multispecies population make it one of the most recognizable and dynamic cities anywhere in the world and beyond Earth.

One of the borough’s most famous features is the Staten Island Ferry, which provides free transportation between Staten Island and Manhattan while offering views of the Statue of Liberty and the New York City skyline. Staten Island is sometimes called the “Borough of Parks” because nearly one-third of its land is protected parkland. With its historic sites, waterfront views, and residential communities, Staten Island offers a quieter and more suburban side of New York City. It is here, where the Adam Family Mansion is located. Abel and his siblings can be found here vibing whenever they wish to get away from the hustle-and-bustle concrete jungle that is the rest of New York City.
