Animorphs Races: Leeran by Monster-Man-08 Animorphs Races: Leeran by Monster-Man-08
The psychic frogs, plus a small portion of the great number of creatures from their homeworld, Leeera (a rare thing for a planet to have so many kinds creatures, even rarer for a planet to be named in this series).

The Leerans are psychic, making them hard for Yeerks to infest, but not impossible. With the psychic power, one Yeerk was able to tell Visser One that the 'Andalite bandits' were, in fact, humans (but Visser One thought that Leeran-controller was confusing a gorilla for a human). Leerans, like the Hork-Bajir, are able to survive traumatic head injury, which was used to literally rip the Yeerks out of their noggins!

The rest of the creatures are various aquatic life forms, adapted to feed of the geothermic vents... except for bat-snake thing, which is thrown here for the sake of completeness. It normally lives in a cave with thousands of other bat-snakes, hanging on the ceiling and eating whatever flies by (possibly stunning it first by echolocating).

i love the cross-like pupils of the Leeran's eyes, and the rest of the sea creatures are really alien, like that one with the fleshy propellers, i imagine the pointy tips in the centers of the organic propellers to be the critter's "eyes", also i love the green critter that looks like it could extend it's body like an accordion, and the purple critter is like a mini-enypniastes with super jet propulsion.

I love the way they described Leera in 18. =D But I felt like the others were being total jerks to Ax. :ohnoes:

Your drawing here is definitely better than Romas Kukalis' drawing of a Leeran: [link]

Unfortunately I never read this book but it looks very cool. Those background organisms look fantastically alien.

Is the bat-snake thing aquatic or terrestrial?

Terrestrial, although Leera's landmasses were destroyed in an act of war. So maybe it survived, evolved aquatic, and now fills in the missing predator roles. :P

The land was destroyed?! Have those Andalites gone insane?! And I thought what they did to the Hork-Bajir was bad!!

You should do the Mercora and Nesk at some point.

Animorphs has a lot of cool aliens. The Leeran was always one of my favorites.

Wow, but do Leerans really do have tails?

I don't think the books describe a tail, nor say they are tail-less. But it kinda goes with the "rule" of aliens in the series only being bipedal if they have a tail (like the Hork-Bajir) or walk using their arms most the time (like the Gedds and the Na), humans being the single exception.

And besides, it lives mostly in water, so that won't be too much of a problem.

Well, they were described to be like frogs with tentacles, so . . . . . .

Wow, it looks really good. I like your version of the Leeran more than the others I've seen. His eyes...they seem to relay that he knows, what you are thinking. I like the creatures you added in; really gives a feel to Leera. You are a magnificent artist; I look forward to more~
