Why the heck did I agree to this? My goofy cousin Malcolm had talked me into going to a nerdy nerd convention. I have better things to do with my time, like going to a furry convention! Or watching Yatterman, which is the greatest show that I have never watched. I'm surprised Malcolm even wanted me to go with him, considering I had mutated into a half-man half-monkey guy in a lab-coat. I guess he was just that desperate to have company. Malcolm was a goofy guy, and the only guy I know of who is better at Phantasy Star online then me. And PSO is one of the most important games ever made for a failed videogame console, so you know he's a classy person.
Malcolm and I walked over to the convention hall, as I noticed the large box Malcolm was carrying. "What's in the box? Comics?" I asked as I wiggled my tail around out of curiosity. Malcolm shook his head, "Nope, this is something special I have planned for today. I'll be sure to show it off at our booth!" Crap, I forgot about Malcolm's stupid booth. Malcolm made a ton of spare cash off of selling items on Diablo III and Counter-Strike in order to rent out a booth at this con. This convention was special, as it was Nerd-Con 2014. It was the biggest gathering of nerds, geeks, dorks, William Shatner, and trekkies.
I still can't believe Malcolm talked me into this, but he baited me with something I couldn't resist: The chance of meeting Hugh Jackman. I had enjoyed his movies since the time that I first watched X-Men 2, and ever since then I've loved his movies. Well, mostly the X-Men movies he was in. I couldn't resist this chance to meet my idol, even if it meant doing so in the body of an anthropomorphic monkey. Still, I was so excited for the possibility of meeting Hugh Jackman. Malcolm and I entered the large building, crowded with various nerds in costume walking around. Despite being a monkey in a white lab-coat and silver body-swap helmet, I fit right in and nobody thought I was weird for once!
Malcolm and I made it to the booth that he rented out. We both sat down in the seats, as he took out some boxes. "So, what are we selling? Anime, movies, anything like that?" He shook his head, "Nope! I'm actually selling a bunch of old comics from my dad's basement." My eyes opened wide at his remark, "Is you dad cool with that? Last time I checked, uncle Warren hated selling off his comics!" Malcolm shook his head, "Nah, he said it was cool to sell these ones. He told me that I should cut him in part of the profit though. Still, I'm going to be selling something else that just you and I are going to go 50-50 on." I scratched my butt curiously, "50-50, you sure? I'm not exactly a salesman, so I don't know if I could properly push what you're selling, unless it's something amazing like Gundam model kits or something."
He shook his head, "Trust me, you'll be able to help me sell this perfectly. For now, I need to setup, you should go check out the convention and come back in twenty minutes when I have the goods ready. That's when I'll show you what I got." I shrugged my shoulders and stood up from the chair, "Sure, I'm cool with that. Later, cousin!" I ran off and went to hang around at the convention. There were a lot of things to do, many people to meet, and many panels to attend. I talked to some people, and they asked me about my costume. I must've heard the phrase, "Cool lab-monkey costume! What show are you from?" A thousand times today, and I kept telling them that this is my regular skin.
Of course, nobody bought it and thought I was just roleplaying. Eventually I went back to the booth and found Malcolm's goods set up on the table. However, I expect some sort of sellable product, but what I got was something entirely different. Standing there was Rush, the robotic red from Megaman. His body was covered with shiny sleek ruby-colored metal coating, he possessed a stubby mechanical tail, and a goofy adorable dog's face. I assumed it was some sort of replica, until the thing began to move on its own. It moved unlike any other robot dog I had ever seen, it was fully responsive and even acted like an actual dog. "Uh... Malcolm, is that Rush from Megaman?"
Malcolm nodded his excitedly in response, "Yep, it's a replica of Rush from Megaman! Down to every last detail, with the exception of higher brain functions. I actually got these schematics from a ticked off former Capcom employee. He was tired of Capcom not doing anything with Megaman and friends, so he started giving out cool stuff like this to people online. I thought, we could have Rush do some tricks for people here at the convention and charge people to take pictures or the like. Who wouldn't pay to get their picture taken with a highly advanced piece of technology such as this?" Rush barked happily as Malcolm petted him on his metallic head.
"Oh, another get rich quick scheme, eh? And how are you going to get him to do what you say, I thought you said he lacked higher brain functions. A robot with zero brains doesn't sound that advanced to me." Malcolm smiled, as he looked at me. "Don't worry he'll have brains soon enough..." I was just about to ask what he meant, when a strange port opened up on Rush's head. Out came a long connector cord which lunged towards me. Before I could react, the cord plugged into my helmet. I started to lose feeling in my body, as I could feel my brains begin to filter into raw data. It was fed into the cord leading to Rush as I felt myself being dragged into another body yet again. Everything went black for a little bit, until I heard a strange sound.
It sounded almost like a computer booting up, but it sounded extremely loud. It felt like the sound was coming from within me, and my organs felt strangely...Unreal. I couldn't hear my stomach churn, my skin felt dry and lifeless, and my brain felt like it running at a mile a minute. Suddenly, my vision returned. Strangely enough, I found that I wasn't being greeted by my eyelids opening. Instead, some strange kind of screen flickered on and allowed me to see the world around me. As I looked around I found strange statistics pop up on the screen. I had no clue what was going on, so I decided to stand up get a look around. However, I found that I couldn't stand on two legs and plummeted hard to the ground smashing my face right into the floor. Somehow, I felt no pain from this as if I was artificial. My fingers and toes were gone, and my feet and hands felt entirely different.
"Hey, Jam! You're finally awake!" I heard Malcolm's voice say, causing me to tilt my head up. I found that Malcolm now towered above me as he looked down at me. I attempted to converse with him, but all that came out was metallic barking sounds. I heard something else barking, and turned to see my lab-coat wearing monkey body on all fours with his tongue drooping out of his mouth. That's when it clicked, I figured out what had happened! Malcolm had made me swap bodies with Rush! Suddenly, my mind began to kick into overdrive. Even though I couldn't see in the mirror to get a good look at my body, my overpowered mind directly beamed me the schematics of my new form! I found that my body was covered with a coat of shiny red metal, with pink-colored metal encased around my joints. My neck and knees were colored white, and various screws were seen sticking out of my feet. I had stubby little metallic tail that was colored silver, and I possessed four metallic paws with indents where the toes should be. I had shiny blue eyes, and a typical clueless canine face. I had always questioned the functionality of designing a robot to be just like a dog, and now I was stuck in the body of that questionable design!
I took a few steps on my mechanical feet, as I felt my new joints propel me forward. Gyros whirred around with each step I took, as the screens held within my eyes analyzed the area around me. With a little practice, I even managed to wiggle my stubby mechanical tail around. After taking a few steps, I turned to face the grinning Malcolm. I gritted my teeth and let out a dull growl as Malcolm chuckled to himself. "Relax, it's just until the end of the day! Rush's higher brain functions are non-existent, just like we discussed earlier so I needed someone with human intellect to pilot him. Look, just please do some tricks and I'll make it worth your while!" I wanted to just whine and walk away, until I heard an excited panting coming from behind me. I turned to see Rush in my body, his tongue sticking out and all four of his monkey paws touching the floor. Rush gave me the "cute face" and despite him not being in his regular canine form, it still worked! I couldn't resist the adorableness and gave in.
I walked over to the booth and sat beside it as Malcolm reached down and gave me a pet on the head. I can't believe I had agreed to dog duty, I freakin' hate it when I'm forced to perform tricks! We waited patiently at the booth, until some people showed up. They caught a glimpse of me, and pointed their fingers while gasping at how realistic I looked. I stood up on my legs with my paws thrust in front of me in a begging position, causing the girls in the audience to squeal with delight. "That's so amazing!" Said one convention-goer dressed as Italian Spiderman, "Can he do any tricks?" Malcolm nodded, and pressed down on my mechanical tail. It worked like switch and went down, causing a large spring to burst forth from my stomach! My paws moved upwards closer to my body and attached themselves to my side. I felt uneasy on the coiled-up spring, but I knew I had to tough through it for the sake of convention moolah!
"Hops around a bit, Rush!" I whimpered an did as told, as I started hopping around on the mechanical spring nervously. Rush laughed at me while wiggling his long monkey tail around. Rush seemed to be having more fun then I was, as he would constantly wiggle his new fleshy body around and enjoying the pleasures of being fully flesh and blood. I was not so lucky, as I was forced to hop about on this uncomfortable spring jutting out of my body as the audience clapped and laughed at me. After a few more tricks such as turning into a jet and turning into battle armor that no one could wear, people busted out their cameras. However, Malcolm told them that it would cost them to take pics with me due to my advanced technology.
Luckily, Malcolm wasn't a scum-bucket about it and only asked for an extremely affordable five dollars. People agreed and gave him their cash, and everyone at the convention started lining up to snap picks. Even Stan Lee stood in line for a couple of minutes, before mysteriously walking off for no reason. I spent most of the day hobbling around on all fours, unused to the easiness of moving in a purely artificial body. It didn't bother Rush too much, he was enjoying being flesh and blood. He would leap about and curl his tail around things, he would bark and enjoy the sounds of not hearing distorted canine sounds. He even licked my face at one point... Right before sniffing my butt. The hours progressed, and eventually Malcolm had his fill and was ready to pack up. Rush and I stood at attention in each other's bodies, as we sat at the back on all fours just like the dogs we were. I felt a little depressed after all of this, I was hoping to meet my hero! Hugh Jackman inspired me to be the best I could be, and when I became a mutant I was hoping I could be just as much of a hero as the character he played was.
As I moped about, Malcolm ran back up to us with his boxes all packed. "Alright, Rush engage swap-reverse!" The latch on my head opened up, and the cord erupted from my head and attached itself to the helmet adorning Rush's head. I could feel my data being sent back into my own body, being reconstituted into my human mind. Things once again went black, as I soon returned to my own body. I stood up on two feet and stretched my body. "Geez, I think Rush spent too much time crouched down in my body! My back feels all stiff!" Malcolm chuckled as he looked at me, "I thought a monkey would be used to it!"
I sighed and rotated my sore shoulders, "Whatever, I'm cool with it as long as I get paid. I guess you could say I'm a trained monkey." Malcolm reached into a nearby box and pulled out a wad of cash. "Here you go! And hold on a second, I've got a special bonus for you as well..." Malcolm pulled out something else, and immediately my eyes lit up as I looked at it! It was an X-Men wall scroll! It featured the characters from the second X-Men movie which was a personal favorite of mine! Malcolm pointed at the corner of it, and I noticed that there was an autograph from Hugh Jackman on it! "Oh, Malcolm! Dude, you're the best cousin ever!" I ran over and gave him a big hug. "Hey, don't thank me! If it wasn't for you and Rush, I wouldn't have had enough extra cash leftover to get it autographed!" I turned over to see the robot dog whimpering while giving me the cute dog look. I reached down and gave him a pet. "Good puppy! I'd swap with you again in a heartbeat!" Rush's tongue fell out of his mouth as he smiled at me, suddenly the port on the side of his head opened again and the cord emerged. "Alright, it wouldn't hurt to become you again! Go ahead!" Rush interfaced with my helmet once more as we switched places. I had so much fun on that day, met so many new and interesting people and even met an interesting mechanical dog. Not too bad for something I thought was going to be a waste of time, I'll have to do this next year as well!
I freaking love legends! But I've only played the N64 version, which is renamed "Megaman 64".Is there many differences other than the names?
Great work and Good luck to you in my contest
Thank you, I'm glad you like it. And thanks for letting me be in your contest.
