Devilman, But With Head-Swaps! by Monkey-Scientist Devilman, But With Head-Swaps! by Monkey-Scientist
Devilman has gone mainstream recently, which honestly surprises me. Devilman is a dark, violent, gruesome, sadistic, and nihilistic story. So, that's perfect to turn into a silly chibi spinoff! This screenshot is from "CB Chara Nagai Go World", which is a giant crossover between several of Go Nagai's works. It's a three-part OVA that deconstructs and makes fun of typical chibi adaptations of anime. It's probably the best of its type, because they AT LEAST acknowledge that they aren't supposed to be chibi.

Anywho, this particular screenshot requires a bit of context. Early on in the fist OVA, Jinmen (a giant turtle who devours people whole, body and soul) attacks Akira and friends. He is easily decapitated by Miki, Devilman/Akira's girlfriend. After his pitiful defeat, Jinmen remains with the group as a bodiless head. Come the second OVA, the group is attacked by Lamia Q and Count Brocken from Mazinger Z. Now, Broken's main gimmick is that he can detach his head from his body and have it float around.

I think you can see where I'm going with this. :D While attacking the group, Jinmen seizes the opportunity to steal Brocken's headless bod, which he sadly only gets t to wear for a few minutes. Still, it was pretty awesome! Also, for those wondering, no Brocken is not a Nazi. He just has a similar looking military outfit. The weirdest thing about Jinmen in this OVA is the character himself. He's probably one of the most messed up villains in the franchise, and is normally a complete monster with no redeeming qualities. In this three part OVA, he's basically the best character, as well as the funniest.

Say, wouldn't the Jinmen thing be sort of some material for you in terms of transformation?

Long time no see, Quad! Yeah, in this version of the series he is. It's just kind of hard to write Jinmen into something, since he's normally this insane monster, especially in some of the later adaptations. Though I may use this version of Jinmen as a throwaway story, who knows? :D

I got an idea, you could have your characters be victims of Jinmen or have one of your characters turn into Jinmen and eat people with some unique cast of victims on his or her shell.

Eh, I'm not really into vore or killing off characters. Though if it's just Jinmen eating them and their heads appearing on his shell (without them dying) and him magically storing their bodies in some kind of alternate dimension, then maybe. I just don't like to put death in my works.

Yeah thats why i love it XD but it has been a bit weird seeing the anime get suddenly a lot of mainstream attention thanks to Crybaby, suddenly out of nowhere the Devilman Group that was a bit abbandoned and that i am part of, started to get a lot of fanarts from new people! XD

Yeah, overnight Devilman became a huge thing. I've been a fan of it since that crossover with Cyborg009 I saw a couple years back.

The crossover is... Decent. I mean, it's really more about Cyborg 009. Devilman's in there, but halfway through the movie/ova he just stops showing up. In that third episode he returns and does some stuff though. :D

Haha i dont mind that XD i love Devilman so as long as he appears on it i am fine :D never was a big fan of Cyborg 009, i only know the new version that aired on Toonami... i always found a little weird how the anime was so dark and serious yet it had some really silly Osamu Tezuka esque designs that made it hard for me to take it seriously at times XD but it does seem like its an interesting crossover.

Yeah, I know what you're saying. The designs were pretty out there and clashed with the show's content, kind of like Kikaider. But yeah, the Devilman parts are good, and they end up fighting a demon-cyborg hybrid at the end. :D
