Welcome friends! If you are happening upon my page as an old fan, you may have noticed a name change. Formerly Momo Kurumi, I now go by Momo Kariño (spelled phonetically as Karinyo because social media won't let me use the Ñ in my usernames hahaha).
But don't worry, all my content remains and stays the same. It will take some time, but watermarks on my cosplay content will be updated over a period of time to reflect my updated name change, which I'll talk about the reasons for later on.
For those that are new here, however, thank you for visiting my DeviantArt page! I'm a cosplayer, seamstress, and artist that has been cosplaying since 2007. I started making the majority of my cosplays from scratch by 2011, and fell in love with the craft, moving on to obtain a Bachelor's of Science in Apparel Design and Technology. Sounds fancy, but honestly, I'm ALWAYS learning new things, as creative exploration never stops!
Creating art has always been my passion, even since a child I wanted to grow up to be a cartoonist or video game designer. A lot of my cosplays are thusly inspired by some of my favorite media from childhood, as well as from new shows I've come to be a passionate fan of! The media runs the gamut from American cartoons, to anime/manga, video games, movies, tv shows, and pop culture icons. I'm attracted to bright colors and iconic silhouettes, so my cosplay portfolio tends to look like a cartoon all on it's own!
Currently, my passion is to give back to the cosplay community things I've learned and resources, since they have given me so much over the years. It's my belief that cosplays thrive when working collaboratively, sharing concepts, materials, patterns, and techniques, so that we all can push our art to new heights! I am hoping to get back into doing more tutorials, such as for YouTube and my blog at www.momokarinyo.com in the new decade. Some of those tutorials go along with digital sewing patterns that I sell on my website and in my Etsy, so that you can print at home and follow along to make your very own creations.
Other hobbies I'm passionate about are art & illustration, photography, fashion, roller skating, and being a lucky dog mom to two adorable rescue furballs. So those topics may come up in my social media now and again! I'm looking forward to the new decade. The past 13 years of cosplay have taught me so much about myself such that I feel like for the first time, I finally feel I know what I'm about. Hence the significance of this name change, heheh.
Anyways, I want to thank you all for a wonderful 10+ years in the cosplay community, for all the love, lessons, and growth you have shown me. I hope that in another 10 I will be doing even more amazing things that I never thought possible! So let's look forward to entering that bright new future together, a new decade is upon us!
