Description
Guess who realised she didn't do many sketches over the past 2 years (so basically, since she is drawing) and neither did value studies?
Yepppp, me. So, these days I am stubbornly filling my sketchbooks with horrible sketches, really, truly ugly pieces. I hate them being ugly, but I love how they don't need much, just a pencil - not even an eraser. I have a slight addiction of erasing everything, so when I go out for my daily walks - my knees dislike sitting so much - I grab my smaller sketchbook and my pencil, but not the eraser so I am forced to accept my ugly sketches and also helps on my insecurity in art. I am not telling it is easy, but it is surprisingly... liberating as well.
It is also horrible to experience how simple sketches can be so challenging - damn me, if I'd do them over these years I would be over the super ugly phase. But well, rather now than never, am I right?
I do "easy" things (they are not easy, not in the slightest): rocks, trees, fucking clouds and then some fun things, skulls and horses, because I know these two, kind of comfort zone art and figuring out how to be loose and accepting my mistakes also finding my values is difficult on its own.
I failed with this horse 2 times and one more with the prev one, but the 4th try broke some ice. Not perfect, values are way too narrow again, here or there a bit smudgy (i have tons of texture brushes and I know their theory, but practice is another question), but it's mine. I made it work, I learned from it and guess what will be tomorrow's warm up...

also this is so gorgeous?? and i pretty much relate to everything you said, the thing about not taking an eraser is a good tip! i don't sketch traditionally at all, but maybe i should try and start filling in my unused sketchbook i bought back in 2017.. 😂 or at least start dragging my ipad with me a bit more!
