First introduced in 2110, the Kodiak Instruments MX-551 is a military-only timepiece issued to all Special Operations Forces units of the Escean military in order to standardise performance and utility over varying, personally acquired watch designs. Two variations of this watch exist. One is issued to the majority of SOF units, while the second is exclusively issued to members of the RAVN Battalion of the 23rd Guard's Battalion, the so-called 'Ravens'. Visually identical, their performance differs in some expanded functionality for the MX-551R model, which incorporates a secondary screen function into the primary crystal for the display of visual or textual information. The standard MX-551 is a heavily ruggedized digital timepiece developed for wide-ranging temperatures and pressure variations. It is capable of vacuum operation, as well as tolerance of 101 atmospheres, equivalent to 1000m of water on Earth. 

The watch case is fabricated from grade 3 titanium, giving it significant strength, and anti-corrosion characteristics. This is, in turn, coated with a graphene/polymer (GRAPO) matrix for added strength, as well as added environmental resistance, and opsec protection via its black coating. The strap is fabricated from kevlar dipped in the same GRAPO combination, and features a wide array of adjustable eyelets. Powered by a vespomide metamaterials cell or VMC, the watch can operate continuously for up to two years thanks to its low power draw. The inner and outer crystals are composed of aluminium oxynitride, treated to avoid glare or reflection

Aside from a standard time display in a 24-hour format, down to the seconds, the watch can also display the date, operate as a stopwatch, or as a timer. A digital bearing readout automatically tracks magnetic north on a given world, with a wide array of available data pre-stored or capable of wireless upload. A separate mechanical bearing ring can be set to fixed or free floating modes as a back up. Additional readouts can display barometric pressure, elevation, and also track position via available satellite connection. Both variants of the watch have emergency transponder systems that can be activated if required. 

The MX-551 watches are not utilised by personnel in full suit armour, such as that of the SPARO series. Instead, they are designed for general wear or low visibility operations, such as undercover. Among Ravens, the watches can act as clandestine communication devices operating on encrypted bands.
