In the past few months we've been working hard to get the new Color Guide filled with as many newly picked colors as we could. As a part of this process we're also trying to keep the cutie mark submissions in the club in sync. However, some of the cutie marks already in the group are severely outdated, in shape and/or colors. To fix this we made our own versions in the hopes of creating versions with better accuracy, utilizing all tools at our disposal.
The amount of duplicate cutie marks in the club has always been a concern, and today we have decided to bring an end to this mess. The best* of duplicate cutie marks will be kept and older cutie marks that have incorrect colors will need to be updated. If the creator of the cutie mark in question is still an active member of the club, we'll ask them to update the colors according to our color guides within a reasonable time-frame through personal notes. In the case of the cutie mark shape being inaccurate, we believe it is a lot easier and faster for us to re-create them compared to asking others to change their older vectors. If we cannot keep the cutie marks in the gallery for the reasons previously mentioned, we will be removing them from the club gallery. For the time being, old cutie marks we have no replacements for are going to stay until we can replace them with more up-to-date versions.
As a result of this change, we suggest to all artists that have used any of the CMs that we've removed from the gallery to replace them with the new ones. This is not mandatory for older vectors, but if you had a previous CM file saved for yourself you should check to see if we have updated ones, because members submitting new vectors using the older, outdated cutie marks will most likely be asked to update them anyway.
Some of you might be upset by this change, but please understand that having 3+ versions of some cutie marks in our gallery doesn't help anyone looking to find the right version to use. We are not planning to make a monopoly out of the resources folder by only keeping the team's works in, member submissions are still very much welcome for cutie marks we have only outdated versions of, but we, the admin team, have decided to be the ones to start the process. If any of you have an affinity for vectoring lesser-known characters' marks and would like to help in our goal of a folder filled with only accurate marks, we'd like to ask you the following:
Please start with characters who have no cutie mark vector linked yet on our color guide site, since cutie mark colors for these ponies have likely been picked already. We just need the vector to go with them. If the pony whose cutie mark you'd like to re-do hasn't been added to the guide yet, please send the group a note or drop by our Discord server and ask us to pick the colors for you. Be sure to provide a link to the image you used when tracing the cutie mark in the deviation's description, just so we can verify it is from a straight-on shot without any transformations. If in doubt whether a screencap is ideal to use in the first place, feel free to ask us using the previously mentioned mediums.
We'll be doing our best to keep the quality of future cutie marks on par with the group's quality standard, and we hope this change will be welcomed by everyone who's looking to use accurate assets from our group.
*Best is subjective and includes such ideas as "most accurate", "most compatible", etc. E.g., a plain SVG with filled paths is more compatible than an Inkscape SVG with powerstrokes.
