When you awake a goddess, things sometimes are not as simple as they seem.

Model is :iconbrittaniluv: A thousand thanks to Brittani for being willing to experiment and make this work - getting this footage involved her dancing around in front of a fan for about an hour; we didn't really know what this was going to look like and because the slow-motion camera renders light a bit differently, I couldn't set the lights up visually, I had to triangulate on the set-up by trial-and-error.

This was shot with a Casio EX/F100 camera, lit with 2 fotdiox light-panels of 16 CFL bulbs each, velvet background, big fan, grey silk gauze.

To tell the truth I feel like this needs some kind of music to go with it, but I also feel like I'm not up to the task. So maybe you can just play something you like while you're watching it. I'm listening to Tarja's "What Lies Beneath" as I edit this.

absolutely stunning... this could be the preview of a new kind of butoh dance... where not the dancer moves (almost static), but clothes, twigs, accessoires, in short the air surrounding ...
opening new perspecives and possibilities.

love it! I think even it can go without music like Bill Viola's work (if I am not mistaken..) at least you are watching something between the still and a movie.

@04:24Great video, Marcus. The combination of the slow motion and Brittani's graceful movements while modelling are an evocative reason why I think, from an artistic viewpoint, that women's bodies are beautiful. :)

On being able to choose our own music to listen to while watching the video, I went with something that I thought really suited the clip: "Europa", by Gato Barbieri. [link]

@02:40The first round i watched her body, i watched the ripples of the sheet end just below her belly button and the way her movements affected the sheet. The second time around i put on Adam Hursts Dusk and i imagined the twlight monster engulfing her and i paid more attention to the lighting on the sheet and the movement and shape of the sheet than i did what was under it, let it and the music tell me a story. Now i can only imagine what would happen (my mind being blown) if you, Adam Hurst, and Rachel Brice teamed up to create a similar piece. (Rachel Brice undulating her body to affect the sheet to the sweet trills of Adam Hurst's cello, all on camera with ?slowly changing lighting?)

@02:40That's really cool!!!!

One of the things I have been trying to figure out is how to synch slow motion stuff to music. That turns out to be really tricky!

@02:40i suppose that would mean that she would have to dance to nonexistent music in her head first and then once the video got put together than Hurst would compose a piece around it :/

@02:40I'm not sure. I was thinking that if I get the BPM count from some piece of music I can generate a beat with my synthbox at 20x that, with a sub-beat on the fours, and she can groove to that...

@04:24I wish wish wish wish I had an HD slow-motion camera but I am a bit reluctant to plunk down $40,000 for gear. :\ They rent them for (a lot of $$) but I may try to get one sometime this winter. Just because of awesomeness.

@04:24D: OMG thats an enormous cost!!! Despite the amount of time editing and prepping to get this to work, you get stunning results for not forking out $40,000 lol As long as they don't make you get ridiculous amounts of insurance to hire one lol
