HMS Sif - MK 2 WIP by mistformsquirrel HMS Sif - MK 2 WIP by mistformsquirrel
Spent a lot of time last night painting. I'm frustrated with my line art at present, so this was a way to keep working on art while not running into "WHY. WON'T. YOU. STAY. STRAIGHT. DAMNABLE. LINES." all the time.

It's hardly perfect, but I'm happy with the design I came up with.

This is for my novel-in-progress, Knights of the Air.

Nice! I struggle with anything mechanical, so I appreciate the effort it takes. What provides the lifting-power for the airship? Gas or magic or a bit of both?

Right now I'm leaning toward the idea of an element native only to the story universe < . .> a type of [link] applied phlebtonium. Not exactly an elegant solution, but better writers than I have used it extensively, and since it's simply an enabler of weird tech... I figure why not? <.<

Basically it's a gas that gets lighter when heated - it doesn't merely expand like with a hot air balloon, it actually gets lighter. This allows the 'balloon' part of airships to be stored entirely inside while also allowing for larger, heavier airships almost on par with oceangoing vessels.

< . .> So short answer - gas < . .> but it's (near magical, or at least, physics defying) gas.

Long answer - I wanted some way to avoid having big balloons on my airships, and this is how I figured I'd do it. The Sif here is rather cobbled together compared to a proper military vessel like [link] this one.

Sorry, rambling >< Mah novel is slowly coming together and that excites me hehe - slow is still the operative word though.
