Depression by mistformsquirrel Depression by mistformsquirrel
Just have been feeling awful the last few days.  Sometimes it helps to put it on paper.  This is deliberately rough and simplistic - it's mostly me getting emotion on paper rather than being serious art practice.  That said, i felt the face came out a bit better than usual, though it's a bit hard to see here.  I also learned a few tricks with OpenCanvas from this, so that's good.

Anyway, hopefully in a few days I'll perk up a bit and I can get back to regularly scheduled business (insofar as that exists here.)

*hugs* I'm hoping you feel better soon, 'Squirrel.  For what it's worth, you did really well on this.  It's very atmospheric, emotional.

Thanks!

The nice thing here is I think I can use what I learned here in the future, so that may  help me long term as well.

Mh, for what it's worth, I'm with you here. Putting things on paper (and thus acomplishing things) does help, I find. So proceed. :)

(As far as art goes this one is pretty good, actually. Nice appliance of highlights.)

Thanks!  I tried something a bit different here - instead of my usual method of sketching, I went with a very thick but only mid-opacity brush and went for almost a charcoal drawing effect.  It fit my mood at the time well both in terms of the lines and shadows it produced and also being very rough looking rather than clean.

Only thing I'm not happy with* is her scar.  I wasn't able to figure out how to keep it in black and white without it just looking like a weird smudge on her face.  Maybe I should have left it out of this piece, but it's canon for the character and I'm weird about that kind of thing. >.<

*Well, for the 2 hours I spent on this anyway - if I'd spent longer I'd expect better.

The scar looks pretty decent as is, since it contrasts well with the highlights and has typical scar shapes. :)

I'm glad you think so, that makes me feel a bit better about it then.
