Hey all! First post, haven't had a DA account in a long time but this seemed like a good excuse to start a new one. I have a lot less free time to work on art than I used to, but I'm gonna try to make more of an effort so hopefully I can post more stuff here in the future.
So now that the 3DS is nearing the end of its life cycle I decided to finally buckle down and finish this, as a way for me to both pay tribute to one of my all-time favorite games and to give my favorite Nintendo handheld a send-off. Despite its fantastic library of games, it'd be hard to argue that the system hosted a more inspired or ambitious game than Kid Icarus: Uprising- I distinctly remember when playing through for the first time, it felt like the game was too big for the platform it was created for. I've played it many more times since then, and it has never lost any of its charm or appeal for me. When you consider the level of detail and quality that was put into every aspect- the writing, the art, the soundtrack, the wealth of content- it's clear that the game was a labor of love by Sakurai and Project Sora, and with this drawing I wanted to try to do justice to the sheer scope of what they accomplished. KI:U has a lot going on, and I did my best to capture as many of the game's disparate elements as I could. There are a few minor characters I still couldn't fit (Twinbellows, Cragalanche, Poseidon, etc.) but most of the gang is here, along with as many of the game's set pieces as I could squeeze in. Overall I'm pretty happy with how it turned out, and I hope you guys like it! Only 19 years left til the sequel!
P.S.- I realize that this is compositionally pretty similar to theunspokenprophet's excellent Kid Icarus 30th
piece, which is a complete coincidence- I actually started working on this thing many years ago and let it fall into that special purgatory that all my art projects seem to end up in at one point or another, and didn't realize til just recently that someone else had a similar idea. (My main inspiration back when I started it was actually this Zelda painting.
) Great minds think alike I guess?
EDIT- Now with 100% more Soul-Eating Monster! The city just looked so empty without him. (I'm done messing with it now, I promise.)
