Vector Mask Painting by MissNysha Vector Mask Painting by MissNysha
This is a guide for those who want some more in depth clarification about my fav digital coloring technique: vector mask painting, which combines vectoring and tablet painting in a single layer. This time, you don't have to hunt through my other tutorials to try and understand the concept! :D

Intermediate level, as it assumes some photoshop vectoring knowledge. See my previous Ultimate vectoring guide for further details: [link]

Also check out my Hair Coloring Tutorial to see me using vector mask painting in full! [link]

Made in photoshop cs2, but the technique still applies to other versions. :)

Enjoy!

Oh wow! This is awesome! :D I've been using Inkscape forever in order to take advantage of vectors and such, but there are some things you just can't do in a vector program as opposed to a raster program. Now I have a guide on how to use the best of both worlds (vector and raster). Thank you very much! :D

Yep! In photoshop there is! There just had to be a way... :D Sure enough, with some tweaking and testing I figured it out. :)
Thanks for the comment!

Oh, I don't have Photoshop, I use either Gimp or another open-source program called Krita. They also have vectors and such though, I just never knew how to make proper use of them, so thanks! :D

Ah, I see. :) I haven't used those before so I'm not sure if they can do this particular technique. Worth a shot though!
You're welcome! :3
