Tutoral: Horse Hair Braid hem Ruffles

Here is my tutorial for using horse hair braid in the hem of a skirt to create ruffles! If you have any questions please ask! Now I used pictures from while I worked on my new Eternal Sailor Moon skirt! So that is why I have 3 different skirts being worked on in the shots! This is also the main way I do my senshi skirts, which is why the tutorial calls for 2 skirts! You can use as many skirts as needed.

I'm looking to make a costume that requires me to have a longer dress, that touches the ground, with ruffles. Do you think the horsehair braid would be very helpful to me by going that route? I've searched the internet for two days and from a friend I was told that horsehair may work.
Horsehair braid will help some. You'll probably want to do some gathering/pleating at the top if you can as well. The two together should give a good bit of help to what your looking for as long as the material your using isn't super heavy,

Hi! I was following your tutorial but came across a problem when I tried sewing it as the horsehair braid would get stuck in my sewing machine. Do you have any idea of why by any chance? :/
My only thought would be if you hadn't changed your machine's needle in awhile it may be part of the problem.
Hi!! I loved your tutorial~~~ I am trying to make my own eternal sailor moon costume eventually, but I had a quick question for you if you dont mind. How much fabric did you use for the skirt overall? I know it will probably be different for me, depending on sizing, but it would help alot to know an estimate on how much yards of fabric I need for each color.

I honestly have no idea how much I used, I'd made it over 6 months ago. As well as that the colors are in different pieces it's hard to say the amount of each/overall.

Where did you buy the horse hair braid? (Never actually been looking specifically for it before, but it'd be nice to know where to look if I ever make a ruffly skirt).
The 1in one comes from Hancock Fabrics/JoAnns Fabrics. The wider one is from Vogue Fabrics website.
