This last year or so I've been really scarce on my usual internet places. I figured I should write something so people know I'm not just gone forever.
Basically I'm doing a lot of learning right now, especially with my artistic skills. I have been breaking away from the reasons I first started drawing when I was young- basically to prove I could draw whatever other people where drawing, better than they could. I had a lot of pride as a kid, I guess.
I've been trying to express my own ideas in art for a while, and come up with concepts on my own- but the more I've done this the more I find my own skills lacking. It's frustrating not being able to express my thoughts, I'm pretty bad at it verbally and I'd really like to make up for that artistically. So my focus for at least the past 6 months has been experimentation and improvement. I am not aiming to produce any finished works at this time, except for the ones I'm doing for classes. I just want to experiment, both digitally and traditionally, in both 2D and 3D mediums, and not feel the pressure to show it or display it in any way. So that's what I've been doing!
I'm also back in uni again. This is incredibly time consuming even without studio art classes. But it's a priority in my life and I'm getting real motivated to be a teacher. I'm at a point where school is both fun and useful, so I have less need to take refuge in the internet. Though I do still pop online every once in a while to look through polls (one of my favorite parts of DA besides the actual art) and skim through the 10,000+ deviations in my inbox. I'm just not putting up any of my own art for a while.
Though, if you have a tumblr, you're welcome to follow either my main blog missmanta.tumblr.com or my art blog missmantart.tumblr.com. I update there every once in a while, and I feel more comfortable putting a few of the sketches I do on my tumblr account since it's less of a gallery and more of a whatever-you-want type of thing.
Since I'm throwing out URLs I'll also mackenzi.listal.com and goodreads.com/user/show/4122801-mackenzi. I don't use these sites as a way to socialize (I've never been good at socializing anyway) so, like DA they aren't updated super often. But I still visit them: I've been trying to expose myself to more art, including books, games, and movies, and I've used those sites to find more of them and keep track of what I've experienced. Typing out thoughts and reviews and keeping them all in a convenient place is therapeutic and helps me express opinions, so I try to do it in my spare time. I have a journal too but it's a real book, no URL for that.
Anyway, hope y'all are enjoying your last couple days of the season.
