Her face turns ashen. She looks around, as if she is looking for some kind of answer. “Do you know what that means?” he continues. “He knows where we live. He is probably watching us.” “Does Danny know?” “Not yet. And I am not sure if I should call him now or show him tomorrow at the station.” “What do you mean, you don’t know?” she blurts out in panic. “Call him and get some policemen to stand watch. If this guy is as dangerous as we think he is, I want protection as we sleep. And protection for our daughter at school.” “You are right. I will call him and make the arrangements.”  Peter picks up his phone and lets out a sigh as he dials Danny’s number. Drops of sweat form on his brow as it is ringing. Finally he picks up. “Peter, what’s up?” “Hey, Danny. I’m sorry to bother you, but can you come over to my place? It’s urgent.” “What’s wrong?” “Please. I’ll explain when you get here.” “Alright. Let me grab my things and I’ll be right over.” Fifteen minutes later

"It seems you are the detective they put on the case of the murdered girls. You are well known as one of the top detectives in this country. I doubt you have any idea who I am, but I am willing to play a little game. I will show you exactly what is happening to these girls. You probably know by now that I have found myself a new prize already. Now, this will be a battle of wit. You seem to think you are a smart guy. Lets see if you can find me before her time runs out. Let the game begin." Hesitantly he moves the cursor over the video that was provided to him along with the text. As he opens it, he sees a shaky video of a girl running through the woods. It looks as if it was recorded with one of those cameras you can put on your helmet, that a lot of sporters use these days. He can see twigs whipping her arms as she runs past bushes and trees, leaving red welts. Her feet are slipping on the wet leaves on the ground. She turns to look behind her. "Found you," a voice whispers to

Peter drove home from work, frustrated about still being in the dark, with no leads to follow. The autopsy report showed several cuts, none of them fatal. The most probable cause of death is starvation. This asshole seems to try to torture his victims for as long as possible. On top of that, another girl has been reported missing. This Anna Kingsley matches the other four girls in colour of hair and eyes. At least they know the characteristics of the girls that are being taken, but what is the significance? Why are those traits so important? He sighs as he pulls up the driveway. He empties the mailbox before going for the door. There is a just small envelope with his name on it. "Hey honey, how was your day?" Maggie asks him. "Not great. We still have nothing on this guy, and to make it worse, another girl has gone missing. Her appearance is similar to the previous victims." "Oh dear." Peter lowers his eyes in frustration. His wife takes that as a sign to change the

A black car parked around the corner. A crowd of people had gathered around the police lines, trying to get a glimpse of the macabre spectacle that would lie behind it. Peter got out of the car and tried to make his way past the dense pack of people. Once he got close enough to the police lines, ready to show his badge to the policeman that was placed to make sure no one would try to get past, he heard Danny calling out to him. "Peter, finally." The policeman looked behind him as Danny approached. "Let him through. He is with me," Danny said, and the policeman stepped aside as Peter crouched under the lines. "So what do we have today?" Peter asked, as they walked towards the other investigators. "Well, what you are about to see isn't a pretty sight, I must warn you. This is a pretty sick fuck who did this. The girl's body has been all cut up, but we will have to wait for the autopsy report to know what truly happened. But some of the wounds looks old, so the poor lass

I tucked myself in and switched of the lights. It didn’t take long for the sleep to come get me. I have been dreaming vividly lately, but something feels different tonight. It is like something heavy is sitting right on top of me. I jerk awake, open my eyes, flick on the light and frantically look around. Phew. Nothing there after all. I guess it must have been another bad dream after all. I dim the lights but I can’t shake this uneasy feeling. Reluctantly I get back under the covers. I tried to block any thoughts from coming to my mind. It is just some kind of weird paranoia, I whisper to myself. I was just about to fall asleep again when I heard something. It sounds like someone is whispering my own name in my ear, as if they are calling out to me. I keep my eyes shut, hoping for it to go away, but it just keeps repeating it, louder and louder. The raspy voice growing more angry with every syllable. The air around me feels cold. So cold. I hid completely under my covers. I

It’s dark outside. You are trying to sleep. You stare up at the ceiling, as you have done countless sleepless nights. You think about how you have to get up early in the morning as a long day of hard work will be waiting for you. After what feels like eons have passed by, your body finally gives in to the sleep. As you turn to your side, eyes closed, you feel something different. It feels as if someone is watching you. You pass it off to the lack of sleep and try to fall back asleep. But the feeling of fear keeps rising within you. You gather up all the courage you can and turn around, glancing at the corner of the room. A pair of big, glowing eyes is staring back. The creature slowly rises, until its feet get off of the ground. Floating in the air, in a lying position, its head shaking vigorously, as if it is trying to shake something off, his bones rattling with every movement. You hear its high pitched laughter as it seems to stare directly into your soul. Your eyes are locked at

It was supposed to be a nightmare

The snow melts under my aching feet. The twigs snap at my bare skin as I run through the forest, leaving red welts. I can not let the pain hold me back. My footprints are clearly visible in the snow. They will find me if I don’t keep running. If only I can make it to the river. Then I can swim and they will lose my tracks. The sun is rising higher and higher. It won’t be long before the darkness is gone. They will be able to see me. This darkness is the only advantage I have. They can't see me, but they are easy to spot with their torches. I turn to see how far ahead I am. But regret instantly strikes me as my foot slips and I tumble down the hill, hitting my head on a rock on the way down. I feel the pain as I hit it, and then everything turns black. I try to open my eyes, but the morning sun blinds me. What happened? Why am I so cold? The sudden sound of a voice behind me snaps me back to reality. “There she is!” I hear a man yell. I try to get on my feet as fast as I can

“It has been ages since I went on a holiday!” Tommy shouts out as we drive into the forest. “Yeah, well. If you inherit the deed to some cool cottage in the woods, you’ve just got to make good use of it, right?” Alex answers. “I’ve never heard you about this cottage before, though”, I add. “I never knew my grandpa had it, until now. But I looked it up and that lake looked just perfect to fish in”, Alex explains. “Thanks again for inviting us”, Tommy says with the biggest grin I’ve ever seen on his face. “You know fishing alone isn’t as much fun. Besides, it has been ages since we spent some time together.” I listened to the two of them ramble on about different fishing techniques and equipment as I looked at all those trees passing by. Dusk has started to fall and the woods are slowly getting darker when I notice a sign next to the road. “Do not use your main lights.” “Do not pick up hitchhikers.” “Do not exit your vehicle if it breaks down.” “Do not…” I
