I didn't draw it in GIMP either. Aha, maybe I should've explained my process for this earlier. My lines are kind of funky because I drew it all out traditionally and scanned it in (the brightness was raised to make the paper "clean," but it sacrificed line quality
). The only digital things I had done were the tones (except chapter one as the tones were done in blick markers), text, panel lines and in the epilogue as well as scattered screentones throughout I did in GIMP. But, otherwise this particular doujin was drawn out on paper. Right now I do everything in Photoshop, but I didn't get photoshop until well after I had finished this. I'll check into Inkscape though! I'm always eager to try new programs (especially when they have the magic word free attached and I'm too poor atm for illustrator).
Thank you for that. Hmm, that's really good advice. I'll keep that in mind.
I can already imagine the responses of "if you don't like don't look!" and the sort. I mean, I won't pretend I'm not protective of the things I make because even if I'm unsatisfied with something it's still something I
made, y'know? But at the same time artists have to realize to get better, you have to fix mistakes, and another person's eyes are good for seeing those mistakes. Same with writing. And it's okay to disagree with critiques, but courtesy should be given instead of capslock about how they're just a hater. People really shouldn't judge skill level, or even artistic intellect level by a person's DA gallery. Man, that's such a cop out attempt at discrediting another's opinion; I hate when people do that.
Yay! (: I'm definitely sticking to my guns about no shipping in my new comic (but knowing me if you squint sideways you might be able to see stuff? I don't plan those out but sometimes I accidentally make everyone touch-y feel-y). I will say that I do
have a new Naruhina comic (comedy) in my brain where they're already together, I just have to write it down and plan it out for real instead of disembodied thoughts before I'll even attempt to start drawing it. Kishimoto is the ultimate tease. We'll be waiting another six months before an update on that front (although I would love to be proved wrong).
