A long time ago, in the Land of the Rising Sun, there lived a young and skilled samurai, descended from a long line of samurai. The young samurai was handsome and kind, with a talent for haiku and a polite manner about his acquaintances. He was calm and collected, with clear mind and unbiased thoughts.
However, he had a darker side: set upon his enemies he became some sort of demon who could not be stopped, without a mind or regard for the pain of his opposition. In battle the young samurai was unstoppable and feared throughout the region.
His allies had taken to calling the samurai 'Hachiman', the name of the powerful War God and protector of the country. The young samurai didn't mind it, nor did he refer to himself with the name Hachiman: it was blasphemy against the gods, but he made no move to stop his friends.
This angered the immortal god Hachiman, who, in a fit of rage, descended to earth in a storm cloud and challenged the samurai to a fight to decide who was worthy of the name
