09.07.2023: It's been a long time since I've posted on DeviantART. I know I said I quit writing fanfiction but I have a confession to make. I re-joined the Tumblr wagon after I grew sick and tired of all the bs on other social media platforms. Honestly, it has been a very wholesome experience. So if I hadn't re-joined Tumblr, I probably would have never came back to fanfiction. I've really missed it and it's great practice. I planned for this to be a mini series but we'll see how it goes. There are more parts available on Wattpad. I also write my own novels and stories on Wattpad, you can find me @ EVBrowne

Part One
From a young age. She had been raised to be a maid. Born to tend to the All-Father and his beloved wife, Frigga. The Prince, Thor, was their only son who often believed he was better than all around him. Starting from the bottom, she had made her way to the top. She had become the Prince's private maid for a few hundred years now. The Prince, Thor, had grown to trust her and often confided in her. One early morning, after she had finished making up the bed. Thor pulled her aside after thanking her for doing such a good job. Which was suspicious for the Prince to compliment her. Though his mother had raised him with some manners, it had diminished as he grew into a young man. Thor was often loud and arrogant and was known to get into trouble. Always picking fights and trying to prove to the other gods that he was the strongest.
"I need to ask something of you..." Thor spoke up.
"What can I do for you, your Highness?" she asked, bowing.
Thor took her arm and pulled her aside, "This is a very important matter and I can't have you telling any of the others..." he said.
"What is it?" she asked.
"You must promise me you won't tell another living soul..." Thor told her.
"What did you do?" she asked.
"This isn't about me... This is about...", he sighed. "I'm giving you an opportunity, only a few before you have had a chance like this and I believe you're capable of such a taste and I do promise you will be rewarded for your efforts..." Thor said.
"What is it, your highness?" she asked.
"You'll have your own room next to his chambers, you will cook, clean and tidy his chambers..." Thor said. "You must make sure he eats, you must make sure he bathes if so be it, you must keep your eyes on him and make sure he must never leave his chambers..." he said. "If he tries to hurt you, call the guards... But most will not even step foot near that part of the kingdom..." he said.
"Who am I taking care of precisely?" she asked quietly.
"My brother..." Thor snarled. "I hate to even call him that..." he growled.
"There is another Prince?" she asked.
"Yes, but no one is to know of him... He resides in the deepest part of the kingdom, locked away and never to be released..." Thor told her. "He has been locked away for a very good reason, I can assure you," he said.
"What did he do?" she asked, looking up at him with worried eyes.
"He is guilty of many things..." Thor said. "He is nothing but a monster, I'm surprised Father has not had him killed just for living..." he scoffed with a roll of his eyes. "He is a beast and he must not be let out of his cage" he warned her.
At first, she wondered how bad it could be. Then her mind began to race and she had thought of every bad thing a god could possibly do. If he was anything like his brother, he would be even worse and as it was. She could hardly stand Thor. He was always getting into trouble and the amount of things he got away with astounded her. But she was in no position to question royalty. After all, if she declined. She would most likely be imprisoned for even questioning such a task. She bowed and nodded.
"I was born to serve you, your highness, if my duties are to be passed on to the secret prince then so it shall be... Thank you for such an opportunity" she said, bowing again.
"Don't thank me so quickly..." he said. "Come with me," he said, leading her out of his chambers.
Thor had brought her to the darkest and deepest parts of the kingdom. Beneath Asgard and past the dungeons where the kingdom's most foul were imprisoned. The further they descended beneath the kingdom. The more fearsome she became. Worried that there truly might be a monster living beneath Asgard. Thor had brought her to two large wooden doors guarded by over a dozen guards.
"This is where I leave you..." Thor said. "I will come and check on you in a month's time," he said. "Beyond this door is a hallway, with a kitchen and living quarters, his chambers are beyond that..." he told her. "The doors will be locked behind you, good luck," he said, kissing her hand. "Here are the keys, make sure you always lock the door behind you" he whispered to her. Slipping an old key into her apron pocket.
She turned and looked at the guards to see them unlock the doors for her. She knew once she entered, there was a possibility of never leaving again. She took a deep breath and walked inside. She turned and watched as the guards closed the doors and lowered the drawbar. She listened to the silence and walked down the long hallway. Only to discover a long descending staircase. That led further down until she was stopped by a locked door. She reached into her apron pocket and pulled out the key Thor had given her. She inserted the key into the long and held her breath as she unlocked it and pushed the door open. To her disbelief, lay what was now her quarters. It was a small home beneath the kingdom. A large bed was big enough to house even a prince and was nothing compared to what she had slept in many nights before. It was lavish compared to what she had been brought up in. A kitchen of her own, to prepare meals for herself and the Prince. Next to the grand fireplace lay a collection of logs. That had been split into manageable pieces to keep the fire burning. Her first instinct was to start the fire. That was something the Prince, Thor, had engraved into her brain. From the very moment, she had become his personal maid. He demanded to wake up in a warm room every morning and insisted on it no matter the circumstances. After stoking the fire with a few logs, she stood up and stared at the door that led to the beast's chambers. She feared the possibility of what lay beyond. She approached the door and unlocked it. Pushing it open only to reveal yet another long winding hallway. Everything she could ever need was here. Including a bathing hall and a place to wash laundry. She could not believe the rivers had flown all the way down here. Slowly, she walked down the hall to a large set of wooden doors. Soon she would meet the monster hidden beneath Asgard. She unlocked the door and peered inside to see nothing but darkness. She was afraid to utter so much as a word, fearing she might awaken the beast hiding in the dark. She entered the blackness blind, seeing her own clouds of breath as she shivered from the cold. It was freezing down here and as she walked further it only became colder and colder. She descended the long hallway until she found a fireplace. She grabbed some logs and attempted to start a fire, shivering and trembling from the cold. The fire had started and lit up the room to reveal a mess of a room. Books were scattered and strung about. Papers were everywhere, and clothes littered the floor. Then she saw the prince's bed, blanketed in furs and something hiding beneath them. She tried to be as quiet as possible as she picked up nearby clothes and stuffed them into a woven basket. She rushed toward the door only to trip over a stack of books causing the prince to be startled and awoken. She heard the beast groan as he unearthed himself from beneath the fur blankets. To her shock, the prince was not a beast at all. He shared no similarities in appearance from that of his brother, instead of blonde hair. His was as black as a raven's wings with emerald eyes of green.
"You're not ugly at all..." she mumbled, under her breath. "You don't look like much of a monster to me..." she said.
"Is that what they've told you?" he asked quietly.
"I-I beg your pardon...?" she asked softly.
"Is that what the people up there told you?" he asked, pointing above. He rubbed his eyes and yawned. "I honestly didn't think I would get another maid after what happened...". He buried his head into the pillow and groaned. "Leave me here to rot like the rest of them..." he grumbled into his pillow.
"What would you like me to call you, your highness?" she asked quietly.
He lifted his head off the pillow and sat up and looked at her with tired eyes. "What did you just call me?" he asked.
"Your Highness..." she said, then bowed. "What would you like me to call you? Surely you must have a name, you are a prince after all" she said.
"I am no prince..." he grumbled.
"You must have a name..." she repeated.
"My name is Loki..." he uttered.
"My name is (Y/N), it is a pleasure to meet you, your highness..." she said, bowing again before him.
"Why do you keep doing that?" he asked quietly.
"I am to show respect to that of the royal family and I am in the presence of royalty...", "Royalty!" Loki laughed. "If I was royalty, if I was a prince like you claim I am... I wouldn't be here..." he said. "Now leave me to sleep..." he grumbled. Covering his head with a pillow.
"What would you like to eat this morning, your highness?" she asked as she picked up the basket of clothes.
"I'm not hungry..." Loki grumbled. "Let me sleep..." he groaned.
"I think it's time you got out of bed, how about some oatmeal?" she asked.
"I said let me sleep!" Loki shouted as he sat up and tossed a nearby book at her.
The book had hit her right between the eyes. Flitching and losing her footing, she stumbled backwards and to the floor. The wind had been knocked out of her. She groaned and felt the lump forming on her forehead. She sat up and felt her forehead again, looking down at her hand to see if she was bleeding.
"A-Are you alright?" Loki asked, "I-I didn't mean to hit you with the book... I only wanted to frighten you off," he said.
"I'll live..." she said. She leaned down and picked up the book and set it down on a nearby desk. "I'll make you something to eat..." she told him. She picked up the basket and bowed before leaving the room.
Loki stared at her as she left. He heard her lock the door behind her and he knew she was right to do so. He hadn't seen another being in months and the first person he sees, he had nearly knocked them out with a book to the head. Loki sighed as he managed to pull himself out of bed. His body ached after not leaving his bed for so long. He grabbed the tankard of water that was sitting on his nightstand and tossed it onto the fire. Extinguishing the flame. Loki glanced over at the door when he heard humming from beyond the door. He couldn't help but crack a smile. His face had hurt when he smiled, it had been so long since he had felt some form of joy and had believed he forgot how to smile.
