EDIT: Tweaked a few more things with the face and the general 'dirtiness' of the whole image. Hopefully it looks less teenager with a beard now.

Something I made over the weekend, Trying to get a bit more of a narrative going on with the characters. I loved the book the Road, a story about a father and son in a post apocalyptic wasteland, and I thought it might be interesting to use the idea but in a much more positive light. Just some weary travelers exploring the ruins of cities many years after some kind of societal collapse. Bit cliche but better than 'GIRL WITH SWORD VIII'.

Could have done with more polish but I'm really trying to avoid slipping back into old habits of taking months over things. Maybe I'm just being lazy I don't know haha. Approximately 15 hours, no refs.

It is not often I comment to other deviant's art but I have to say this... Holy f#ck! This is very good! The colours in this! The shapes! Even as it has style and I can clearly see that it is a painting it looks too real at the same time, the characters are so believable and the background is very well done!

Aww, I love the detail, especially the dog backpack.

Super interpretation of the characters in the road. I prefer your brighter, colourful view to the dark feel of the film.

May not be polished like your other works, but I totally love it.
I like expecially how it is played on contrasts, grumpy father and carefree child, light foreground and heavy clouds on the background, grass and old walls over the background of a cyberpunk-style concrete city..

I should also read the book you are talking about, I think =)

i really like how you handled the color int his one man. lovin the smoothness of the color transitions. the pose for the kid is spot on, bu theres somethin i guess about the right leg of the dude that doesnt seem as convincing. maybe the left leg supporting it has a little more thrist ip into the pelvis and maybe his right foot is too twisted away from us? Lovin the background colors,. although the clouds make the whole piece feel a little too cramped since its a veritcal image. anyway, those are my two cents man. this is awesome.

loved the book, loved the movie and loving your take on the characters. feels refreshingly different from how i pictured it. the poses of the characters, the hole in the clouded sky seemingly opening to shine down on the two. just beautiful compositionally and in every way.

I feel inspired, I look at this picture and I know that I have to write something post-apocalyptic. So... great work ; D

Really nice picture, just wanted to know if my instinct is correct: Is the father figure based slightly on Joel from The Last of Us and the child based on the Kid from Bastion?
