Here's a plushie I made of Rattata. He wasn't too hard, but I did take me about 4 days to make. I could have done it quicker, but I just made a few pieces a day. Also, I was writing down the pattern as I made it, so it took longer because of that too.

Nothing too complicated here, just standard amigurumi style for the most part, a lot of color changing for the stomach and face though. The feet were pretty simple, but were made with two pieces each, sewn together. The eyes, fangs and whiskers are felt. And that's pretty much it I guess.

I don't know why, but I've always liked Rattata. Way back on my Red version, I would always keep one in my team for like, half the game. (Of course I would evolve it though, 'cause he would be bad as he is). I think it's just because he's so cute.

And now that I've realized I can edit the description, I'll share the pattern too, so this is going to get long.

Rattata Plushie

Abbreviations:
sc=single crochet
inc=increase (2 sc in next sc)
dec=decrease
hdc=half double crochet (there's very few of these)
st=stitch
ch=chain
hk=hook
rnd=round
[w]=change to white
[p]=change to purple

I never really use gauge, so it's not that important, just use a hook that's good with the size of yarn you're using.

Materials:
Purple yarn
White/Off White yarn
Pink yarn (small amount for ears)
Red and white felt scraps
Yarn needle (for sewing pieces together)
Polyester stuffing

*note: when changing color, yarn over with new color in last step of the last stitch indicated before color change.

Okay, so this pattern is divided into seven sections, that being the head, body, feet, front legs, tail, and right and left ears (which are only made slightly different given their shape). Pieces are best sewn together as work progresses. Anyway, on to the pattern.

(number in ( ) at end of rnd indicates how many stitches you have in each round)

Head:
with purple, ch2
1: 6 sc in 2nd ch from hk (6)
2: (inc) in each sc around (12)
3: (inc, sc in next sc) around (18)
4: (inc, sc in next 2 sc) around (24)
5: sc in next 9 sc, dec, sc in next 2 sc, dec, sc in next 9 sc (22)
6: sc in next 9 sc, inc, 3 sc in next sc, inc, sc in next 10 sc (26)
7: sc in next 8 sc, dec, (sc in next 7 sc, dec) twice (24)
8: sc in next 6 sc, [w], in BACK LOOPS only, sc in next 4 sc, dec, sc in next sc, dec, sc in next 3 sc, [p], working in BOTH LOOPS again, sc in next 6 sc (22) *this is the only row where you need to work in back loops. Work in both loops for the rest.
9: sc in next 5 sc, [w], sc in next 12 sc, [p], sc in next 5 sc (22)
10: sc in next 5 sc, [w], sc in next 3 sc, (dec) three times, sc in next 3 sc, [p], sc in next 3 sc, dec (18)
11: dec, sc in next sc, dec, [w], (sc in next sc, dec) three times, [p], sc in next sc, dec, sc in next sc (12)
*basically this row is just (sc in next sc, dec) around, but with color changes noted in the right place*
Finish off, leaving long end for sewing.

Body
*note: the body might look a little mis-shapen as you work it at first, but I promise you it looks great once you get the stuffing in.

with purple, ch 2
1: 6 sc in 2nd ch from hk (6)
2: (inc) in each sc around (12)
3: (inc, sc in next sc) around (18)
4: (inc, sc in next 2 sc) around (24)
5: sc in next 21 sc, [w], sc in next 3 sc, [p] (24)
6: (sc in next sc, inc) three times, sc in next 9 sc, (inc, sc in next sc) twice, inc, [w], sc in next 4 sc (30)
7: sc in next sc, [p], (sc in next 2 sc, inc) three times, (sc in next sc, dec) twice, sc in next sc, (inc, sc in next 2 sc) twice, inc, sc in next sc, [w], sc in next 5 sc (34)
8: sc in next 2 sc, [p], sc in next 27 sc, [w], sc in next 7 sc, [p] (this will go a few stitches into the next round, start rounds at this point from here to end) (34)
9: (sc in next 2 sc, dec) three times, sc in next 3 sc, (dec, sc in next 2 sc) three times, [w], sc in next 7 sc, [p] (28)
10: sc in next 21 sc, [w], sc in next 7 sc, [p] (28)
11: (sc in next sc, dec) three times, sc in next 3 sc, (dec, sc in next sc) three times, [w], sc in next 7 sc, [p] (22)
12: sc in next 15 sc, [w], sc in next 7 sc, [p] (22)
13,14: repeat round 12
15: sc in next 16 sc, [w], sc in next 6 sc, [p] (22)
16: (dec, sc in next 3 sc) three times, dec, [w], sc in next 2 sc, inc, sc in next sc, dec, [p] (19)
17: sc in next 3 sc, (dec) three times, sc in next 2 sc, inc, [w], sc in next 6 sc. Work in rows, do NOT change to purple.
row 1: ch 1, turn, sc in next 6 sc
repeat row one, once.
Finish off.
(This part might sound a little hard, but just read it carefully, I did my best to explain it) Sew sides of last two rows to first two purple stitches (that are on each side of white stitches on rnd 17). This should leave 6 purple stitches open, along with the 6 white stitches on row 2. Stuff head and body, sew together, matching up the white and purple stitches.

Feet (make 2 for each foot, for a total of 8 pieces)
with white, ch 2
1: 8 sc in 2nd ch from hk
2: sc in next sc, ((sc, hdc, sc) in next sc, slip st in next sc) three times, sc in next sc.
Finish off, sew two pieces together to make one foot, stuff lightly. If you push between the toes while pushing on outer sides of toes, it will help shape the foot a little.

Front legs
1: with purple, ch 7, join with slip st to form a ring. (7)
2-6: sc in each st around
7: sc in next 2 sc, inc, sc in next 2 sc, dec (7)
8: sc in next 3 sc, inc, sc in next 2 sc, dec (7)
Finish off, sew this end to body and starting end to foot, stuffing first. Works better if sewn to body first, then you can get the right angle to sew the foot on.

Tail
with purple, ch 2
1: 6 sc in 2nd ch from hk (6)
2-4: sc in each sc around (6)
5: (inc, sc in next sc) around (9)
6-15: sc in each sc around, begin stuffing (9)
16: (dec, sc in next sc) around (6)
17-26: sc in each sc around (6)
Finish off, leaving long enough end to sew to body. Finish stuffing, curl tip of tail down to round 15 (you should be able to see where tail gets smaller again), sew in place, weave yarn up a few stitches to middle of curl, sew down to tail to complete curl. Weave in ends.

Right Ear
(inside)
with pink, ch 4
1: sc in each ch across, ch 1, turn (3)
2: inc, sc in each sc across, ch 1, turn (4)
3: sc in each sc across (4)
Finish off.

(outside)
with purple, work same as inside, finish off.
1: with new strand of purple, sc join in bottom right corner (beginning of row 1), working through both colors, pink in front. (this counts as first sc). sc up side of row 2 (1 stitch), 3 sc in first sc on row 3, sc in next 2 sc, 3 sc in last sc, sc down side (3 stitches).
Finish off, leaving long end for sewing.

Left Ear
(inside)
with pink, ch 4
1: sc in each ch across, ch 1 turn (3)
2: sc in first 2 sc, inc, ch 1, turn (4)
3: sc in each sc across (4)
Finish off.

(outside)
with purple, work same as inside, finish off.
1: with new strand of purple, sc join in bottom right corner (beginning of row 1), working through both colors, pink in front. (this counts as first sc). sc up side of next two rows, (2 stitches), 3 sc in first sc on row 3, sc in next 2 sc, 3 sc in last sc, sc down side of rows (2 stitches).
Finish off, leaving long end for sewing.

*as you may have noticed, right and left ears are just mirror images of each other, but must be done so because of how the front and back are joined*

Make eyes, fangs, and whiskers from felt scraps.

As usual, do not claim this pattern as your own, sell this pattern, or sell things made from this pattern. However, I don't mind if you make things for charity and whatnot, and if you use this pattern, it is always appreciated if you link back to it! :)

OMG this so cute and perfect. Exactly what I'm looking for since 1997. I'm a very huge fan of Rattata and Raticate but I couldn't find any plush toys from Rattata or Ratticate which makes me very, very sad because I want them soooooooo bad. But this Rattata is the cutest thing I've ever seen. Awesome job!!!! But how does this amigurumis work??? I never had anything to do with anything like amigurumis or knitting or crochet.

Could you make another one and how much would it cost? I'm working on a cosplay of Joey and this would be perfect to complete it

D'AAAWW! Yessness! By the way, this is TheCatslugBincko, aka little cousin. I forgot my password and am too lazy to get it back, so I made a different account...

Oh you. You should really write that stuff down in one place that you keep secret. Then you'd have it when you need it!
EuphoniYum's avatar
I do, it's just that I am very very good at losing things. I have lost what I wrote it down on three times already :p

This is in the top percentage of amigurumis

Aw, shucks! I thought about making that joke myself, but it's better if someone else thinks that of my work, than if I try to pass it as such. So thanks!

I have never crochet in my life, but I love this soooooo much! Would you take commissions on this? I am a plush maker so maybe we can do a trade? :3

Sure, I'd be glad to, but it'll have to wait just a little bit. I have a few other commissions I'm working on at the moment, and I don't want to take on too much work at once. So if you want, I'll get back to you when I finish those?

That's totally fine! I understand. :)
Let me know when you aren't stuffed with a bunch of stuff! Thanks!

Hey, I'm finally done with my other commissions! I have one more thing at home that I need to finish up in the next week and a half, but I can work on that off and on. Did you for sure want a Rattata? And I was wondering if you wanted it in this dark shade of purple, or the light color like it appears on the games? I had originally intended to make it lighter, but that was the only shade of purple I had at the time. I just need to know, because I don't have either shade at the moment, and need to know which one to get when I can. It might have to wait a week or so before I can buy the color, but we can at least start discussing it now, if you want. :)

Yeah! I didn't think you remembered! xD the darker shade looks nice, but if you think it would look better lighter that's fine too. I don't mine what shade. :)

It's ok, if you want to do a trade, I have quite a bit to catch up on as well so take your time with things :)

Nah, I wouldn't forget! ;) It just took me a LOT longer than I thought to finish the last commission I was making. I do think it would look better in a lighter shade though, and it will give me a good excuse to make a few minor alterations to the pattern. It shouldn't look drastically different, it'll just make a few parts come together more nicely (I hope, anyway). I'll let you know when I can get started for sure, since I'm also out of stuffing at the moment. (I used the last of it for that commission, since it was two pillows, they took quite a bit of stuffing.)

Ok lighter sounds great! :)
Yup! Just let me know!

Alright! I finally got some more stuffing, and the purple I needed on Friday, and finished up something I was making for a friend, so I should be able to start on your rattata tonight or tomorrow! So were we going to do an art trade then, or a commission? I'm fine with either one. I guess if we do an art trade, I need to decide what I'd want you to make. Would you want to do a pony or what?

Thanks for the compliment! I really am proud of this one, but with it being one of my very first ones, I feel now like there are a few things I could have done a little differently, but the pattern still comes together pretty good, I think. I'm glad you really like it! :D

Thanks for sharing the pattern. I just got into amigurumi and I am challenging myself to make all 151 original Pokemon.

Rattata is my favorite next to Trecko (don't ask why)

Once I make the ami, I will link back to your original! Thanks again for sharing the pattern!

No problem! I just hope you find the pattern pretty easy to follow. There's just a couple parts I would do differently now, but I think it's still pretty good.

Good luck with making all 151! You might need it when you get to Rhydon or someone. :)

And Treecko is one of my faves too, although Torchic was the one I picked that gen.

Wow, you did a really great job on this! And it was so awesome of you to give us all the pattern, too. <3
