Early (and rough) concept for a space station for a movie pitch that never went anywhere.

Even for a rough concept, this is still very detailed. I love it!

It's an interesting design as far as a commercial space station is concerned. What I find particularly interesting however, is that it's design is appropriate for a Space Station with a fair amount of mobility that would be suitable as something of a refinery and relay station for a mining operation in say a proto-planetary disc. Receiving raw ores and materials from mining vessels, smelting the useful ores into bars and packaging various non-metal bi-products for easy shipment on larger cargo vessels.

Very nice concept art.

Is it supposed to be a military station, civilian, scientific research or something else?

This was an early concept for what was supposed to be a sort of commercial and industrial transport hub. The project was sort of like the Pixar film 'Cars' in space, so it was a little like an airport or truck stop in feel.

I like the idea of the ARC-170, and the Sovereign-Colsci 666.

If the scale given by the windows is anything to go by the station is tiny, smaller than a ferry. It can't by this scale have any permanent staff unless they are in extremely cramped zero gee quarters but the placement of the windows suggests a gravity environment. its self contradictory in many ways but to my mind makes me want to explore it further.

Thank you, your points are very well taken. This was a concept for kind of a weird project- essentially it was for a film pitch when the characters themselves were spaceships. Think 'Cars' in space and you wouldn't be far off. The environment designs had a semi-realistic sort of surface to them, but layout and proportions were tweaked in such a way as to make a hangar seem more like a house and whatnot. It was an interesting exercise, and under other circumstances it might have gone somewhere.

Hello Mr. Doscher!

My name is Xander Wolffe.
I have recently started this group for space and space related art and we are in need of an ID. I was wondering if you would be gracious enough to let us use this kick arse deviation as such. Full credit will be given to you as well as a link to this deviation for favorites, as I have done with this group [link]

Thank you for taking the time in reading this.

Always appreciative,
Xander Wolffe

Probably not as you see here. It's a little too amorphous to have a good screen presence, and since it's connected to a dead project I don't own it's really nothing I'm going to directly iterate from.

I'll undoubtedly do something similar fairly soon. The idea of doing a space station that doesn't look like a fountain sculpture is too tempting to pass up.

More than anything it was a section of the book 'How Buildings Learn' about buildings made from standard shipping containers cut up and stuck together. I'd also seen that done with old cargo vessels in a few different places, and wondered how it would look if that were done with standard 80s anime ships that had been frankensteined together like some sort of shantytown.
