Ok I'm an unfortunate artist that can't draw from my brain or imagination. The things I invision will never see the light of day. I need to see the details to make my work look good. I need to see the proportions or what I draw will only be a crude drawing of what it should be. I use google images all the time and I find great photos to work from. Here's the problem thought, photographers don't sign there work? Why would you do that, If I find your image on google and like it and want to hire you but dont' have a clue where the photo came from or who took the photo then what do I do. All artist sign there work, usually someplace out of the way of the actual image bottom corners or sometimes hidden in the image it self but easily can be found. Photographers gripe all the time about not being credited for there work especially since most artist use there photos for reference. However more than half the time the picture is just shared on google or facebook and the original source image is not found. I've even searched the meta data of an image and found where the artist did not edit the data. Some new photographers are using a custom logo or signature on the front of the image even a few school pictures have it. I'm just baffled why they don't do this.

A self taught artist since 1989 no formal training outside of high school. I now do portraits for side work and for the pure fun of it. I like to draw people and really enjoy recreating live portraits. I specialize in black and white portraits and have no formal training in color. I would like to eventually do this for a living and nothing else.

I just joined to sell prints of my work so far 2 weeks and not a single purchase. Sometimes being an artist is filled with discouragement. I'm barely selling enough art these days to purchase new sketch pads. Of course its not about making money but sometimes it would be nice to make a little extra from ones abilities.

been busy lately doing pieces feels good sometimes it flows like water other times it trickles like a leaky pipe. I'm just grateful I can do the work that I do. A friend of mine recommended something called an art agent, they sell your pieces and get a % of the profits. They know where to sell your type of art and how much to ask for. I have no idea where to find one but has any of you ever worked with one before is it worth it?

so I'm drawing again if you can't tell after all the submissions i've done lately. It helps with artist like your self that put out such awesome photographs and have descent models and high quality photos to practice from. I've toyed around with color some lately and have just come to terms that maybe I shouldn't try to color. I destroyed a picture with pastels over grahite. If any of you have advice on how to color over a heavily shaded graphite drawing i'm all ears. I have a few pieces I would like to see in color but graphite seems to fight me every step of the way. I know of a method but I don't have a printer at this time so I can't try it out. My thoughts scan the photo after its done reprint it then color over the printed version of the picture. Then there's not graphite to spread. But scanning a picture that's 11x14 is hard and the only other option is to use my cell phone (iphone 5). Which is the current way I take my photos of my drawings. I'm knocking on over 300 pieces in my portfolio now. I get my subjects usually from google image searches so if any of you see something i've done and recognize it for a particular photographer please let me know so I can credit them.

I'm a little torn on the subject but is photography art? Pointing a camera at a person you have asked to pose in a particular fashion and then clicking a button is this art? I don't want to insult anyone but one drawing of a person can take me an hour to 4 hours to draw the longest picture I worked on took me 3 hours a day for 3 months before I was finished with it. Recently a photographer saw I drew one of there photos. I put under the photo I drew it from a photograph found on google but was unsure of the artist. I made no monetary gain from the picture and the photographer contacted me and said to stop stealing his art! I admit I'm not familiar with the subject of photography, i'm a little on the fence about if this could be called art or not. In my mind art is paintings, drawings, sculptures, in some stretches music. Photography I need some convincing if its actually art or just you using a tool to snap a picture. Please enlighten me on the subject i'm always willing to learn and change my mind. I admit I've seen pictures on here that were photographs that were amazing. But its no more amazing than what I can see with my own eyes. Can you copy right everything I can see with my naked eye or am I wrong. I admit i've drawn a few images I've found up here as well and when I finished felt no guilt about signing my name to the works. After all every stroke of the pencil was my own so why not?
