Ape meets Ghost by mightyfilm Ape meets Ghost by mightyfilm
Original Ghost Busters Vs. Real Ghostbusters.

Has to have been one of the most unfortunate co-incidences in entertainment history. Right up there with the UK and US versions of Dennis the Menace.

I wish there were more crossovers between Filmation's Ghostbuster(With Tracy, Eddie Jr, Jake Jr, GB, and their Trusty Dematerializer) AND The Real Ghostbusters(With Janice, Egon, Peter, Slimer, and the Proton Packs)!!!!!!!!!!

The Real Ghostbusters would without question destroy Filmation's Ghostbusters with their proton packs.

Actually it wasn't a coincidence. Filmation had originally approached Columbia Pictures about making a cartoon based on the film, but Columbia ended up going with DiC instead. So since Filmation still owned the rights to the old Live Action TV show, they decided to do a cartoon based on that.

No, I mean the overall name of the film. I know all about the fact that they were approached to do the cartoon. Originally, the film was to be called "Ghost Smahsers" or something like that. And, Ironically, the original concept was to have them go through time and space to get ghosts (back when this was a project of Akroyd and John Belushi)... something the Filmation cartoon did. But somehow they settled on Ghostbusters, which was a derivative of an old movie called "Spook Busters" (guess what name THAT was going to be. Anyway, Akroyd and Ramis didn't hear of a short lived live action series with the same name on Saturday mornings 10 years before (being grown men, I'd doubt any of they watched or heard of it), and named it as an homage to that old movie. I Guess Lou and/or someone at Filmation ALSO saw that movie. Columbia had to pay for the naming rights.

Overall, I'm glad Columbia went a different direction and Filmation did their own thing. We got 2 great cartoons out of it.

I think the title of both the film and the TV show may be a nod to "The Ghost Breakers" a 1940 comedy starting Bob Hope.
