Time, 3 V's and a D80

Sat Oct 3, 2009, 1:20 AM

How is it that time seems to pass by so quickly?  One day it's warm and sunny and I'm planning my holidays and the next time I look up it's cold, the leaves are turning and it's October. Life really needs to slow down just a little.

3 V's

Vacation...At long last, a much needed break...however...2 weeks is not nearly enough! *lol*

Victoria...Where I spent my vacation and I was so happy to go back. Two years was too long to wait. Loads of pics of course which I will be uploading eventually.

Vehicular Mishaps... My 2nd day in Victoria, my niece is driving me to Mount Doug and we get creamed right in the middle of an intersection. She was fine, though quite shaken, the van was totaled and me... well, I broke a tooth and needed to visit the dentist for a root canal and crown (not a fun thing to do on vacation). My knees and shins took a beating, the most amazing shades of black, blue and purple for the next few weeks. Given that I only had two weeks there, I didn't let the ordeal stop me, I just hiked at a considerably slower pace than usual

On the plus side...ICBC took pity on my poor treatment and abuse by Victoria drivers and paid for the dental work and a little extra compensation for pain and suffering.

Consequently the vacation was paid for and I FINALLY purchased my long lusted after
Nikon D80! It came with an 18-55mm VR lens, a 55-200mm VR lens, tripod, remote, camera bags, lens hoods, close-up lenses, filters, 3 batteries and 2 16 gig
memory cards.

Expect LOTS of wonderful new stocks and photos folks! :D

Thanks to everyone for all the favs and adds. As always they're much appreciated.

Well...back to the long list of notes to answer, faving all the wonderful artwork that I've missed. Have a great weekend everyone! See you soon!

Thanks Sandy! It's good to be back. My niece felt so bad and kept
apologizing. I spent the whole trip reassuring her that it wasn't her fault
and that I was ok. The way I figure it the main thing was that no one was seriously hurt so it was nothing more than a bump in the road

D90 :)

I got one, I nearly got an 80, but ran out of money.
The slight delay, (although anoying at the time) worked out for the better.

I still hammer my D50 though.
It's become my "CARRY EVERYWHERE CAMERA"

And shows it :/
ooops.

:D I was going to get a D90, but I figure that it was a little more expensive and the video feature isn't something I'd use much.

For some reason being in a position to have to wait, almost always works out better in the long run

My previous was a little 6 pixel Sony Cybershot. Small and convenient so I'm sure I'll still use it some of the time. The D80 is a bit of a bigger pain to lug around but the quality makes it so worth it!

One compact camera I used to carry, got so battered, the battery bay door wouldn't stay closed :o

Although the D90 filming is fun, I do use my Panasonic Video camera and not the nikon for filming.

The D80 with photo while mirror is locked open is great for night-work.

Talking of which, I still have moon shots to upload.

800mm lens ! :)

:D I can relate. My little Sony is looking a little banged up. My son has a friend who's heavily into video. He does a lot of footage for the sons band.
If I ever really need or want video he's handy to have around

I'm really anxious to do some night shots, and looking forward to trying my hand at shooting RAW and doing HDR.

800mm lens...NICE! That'll be the next thing I'll be saving my pennies for :D

They cost sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much :(
But are so worth it, and one reason I'll be staying
with Nikon Cameras for years to come.

Just because the lens of that size is so expensive.
I had help to get it.
No matter your age, Parents can be very useful :)

Although, It took some time to pay them back :(

I've come to the conclusion that anything Nikon is worth it :D

My mom is retired but supporting my mentally handicapped brother so though comfortable, I don't like to impose. On the other hand I have a son who does quite well for himself and likes me alot  (He bought me a my dream car a couple of years ago) so I'm sure he'll help out. He owes me!

You gave him life - he buys you things and fixes computer.

Sounds fair to me :)

I was looking at a 50mm F1.4 lens today :(
But I have four web-domains which require payment
in the next couple of weeks.

Looks like the lens will have to wait...

:D He's a great kids!

I don't know, that lens would be awfully tempting to me.

Life is always full of such hard choice. Unless you're Bill Gates. Then the hardest choice is "do I got to Jamaica first or the French Riviera, and which of my planes should I take" :lmao:

Hi Will!! I've missed you the most! :smooch:
I'm fine thanks for asking! Not black and blue any
more. My knees still hurt if I kneel on them but that
keeps me from washing floors so I guess it's not all bad.

I've taken a few photos with it already so I'll have some up shortly.
I wish I'd had it on my trip. But that means I'll just have to go
back next year

I hope you've been doing well and had a nice summer!

Well, if you knee saves you from the scrub brush you can pretend a little when you're alright ;P

I love you pics, darling!
I can't wait to see what my favourite photographer did!:eager:

Well, I found a job this summer...and i left it because the boss was a dishonest son of a bitch who kept change the working hour schedules and paid me the half he had to... and with a month delay.
A special friend of mine had to come here from Turkey and be my guest for some day, except that she never arrived and I lost any trace of her and I don't have a dammit way to find out what happened and if she's alright.
i bought a new pc and it's already gone to hell....well sweetie, Let's say that everything goes wrong since a few months and it looks like is not over :(

I think I won't be washing floors for a long while. I'm old and frail and it will take me a looooooooooooooong time to recover

I have so many pics, both from my trip and with my new camera in the last two weeks. It's going to take me a week to sort through them all :D

It sounds like you've had a very rough time lately. The job...well unfortunately there are some greedy, selfish people out there and sadly it takes a few bad experiences before we learn to recognize them easily. People like that should all have green skin and warts so we could tell right away. :giggle: I also think that employees should be able to give bosses references. That would save a lot of grief.

I'm so sorry about your friend. I'm sure you're very worried and hope she's safe and sound.

The PC...I hope there is some warranty so that it can be replaced.

I feel so bad that you've had such a rough time lately. People always say that bad things happen in 3's so I hope this is an end to it. You deserve some wonderful things to happen!

Come on, the truth is that you gotta act very well because you're not the granny you say!;P

Yep, they should have a klingon face!:D
somebody says that it's bad be happy for other people's troubles...but when I found out that they discovered he has an advanced tybe B diabetes I was like "there, you bastard. spend the money you didn't gave me for insulin. Cheers!"

I'm in hell for Gökçe, She's the first though when I wake up and the last when I finally fall asleep...

I don't know, Linda...it's months that a lot of things goes very wrong.
You know that kind of tragic misfortune you see only in movies? that kind.

You're so sweet to worry about that
, Dear!

You're only as young as you feel, and no one who's felt me has complained :giggle: Hmmmmmmmmm....come to think of it, no one has felt me for a while *getting worried*

I hope you hear something from her soon Will. I know it's very worrying and stressful for you.

And I'm sorry that you have had such a difficult time lately. I think that life is so unfair sometimes. The good and kind hearted suffer so much, and the selfish and wicked seem to get away with murder. It makes me very angry.

I hope always the best for you Will! :tighthug:

It's because the natural thought about that is "she must be out somewhere with her camera doing wonders";)

Thank you

 Well, I can always count on wonderful people like you, Linda. it's priceless:heart:

Thanks you sweetie, Take care of your knee and keep being wonderful!:smooch:

Thanks Tom! I'm thankful for that too. My niece was upset and I kept
reminding her that we were ok, and the van, insurance would cover a new one. It could have been much worse.

It's nice to be back home and back visiting DA!

I'm so thrilled about the D80. I've been wanting one for about 5 years now.
I think the timing is good too. With the winter weather on the way, I'll have lots of time to learn how to use it properly. It does have some nice auto settings so I've been out with it a bit already :D
