Non Oblitus, The European Federation Main

Description

[NOTE: This is the main version of my European Federation flag. For the full version with eight different lightings that I am not entering into the contest, please see [link] ]

I entered into a contest for Marissa Meyer ([link]) to design flags for her futuristic countries. My past three flags (one of which I’m in the process of redoing, and will turn in later once I’m satisfied with it) depended on what the old countries’ flags and culture were like before World War IV. The top huge flag is my entrant for the European Federation.

But I don’t want to be predictable. I don’t want Marissa Meyer to be able to guess what my flags will look like before she sees them.

Because an event like World War IV changes cultures. It changes flags full circle, and they promise that they will Non Oblitus, never forget what caused WWIV.

Quickly:
- I adore Greenland’s flag. Die the red sections green, and that is my favorite flag design. I have no idea why. It was my inspiration.
- The circle represents unity and unity of importance. No region sits at the head of the table.
- The circle, while present in Greenland’s flag, is also an accidental shout-out to the actual European Federation flag, which apparently exists (oh… makes sense as to why Meyer made Europe the federation now…), with a circle of stars.
- The white side represents innocence, hope, peace, purity, the sign of a new beginning.
- The green represents prosperity on Earth. Combined with the white, the two colors represent the hope of a new, peaceful prosperity.
- [NOTE: I am not supporting or preferring any religion by putting a cross of any sort on my work.] The cross – present on several current European nations’ flags, this version is rotated 90 degrees. This is an excellent way to prevent losing all of one’s roots with the old flags, while saying ‘We will never forget’ like a cross does stuck in the ground to mark a grave. And there were many graves after the war that united them. The red cross, red for the courage to start over, and the government revolution to combine. The cross is flanked in white, again for the new beginning. [NOTE: As a cross can also be a plus sign, please remember that having a cross on one’s flag only represents a religion if the creating faction intended it to. Also, there are multiple different crosses used on different current European flags, which all mean different things. See Great Britain’s flag for example if you want more information: [link]
- The crosshairs aren’t a current flag color to my knowledge. As much as I would like to stick to the basic flag colors, they were a complementary color and unique. After all, such a landmark new idea deserves a new flag color.

Overall, I wanted Europe to be a place that, in the future, still remembered where it came from, and because it appreciated its history, it had the strength to create a new flag – that they could accept different religions and different backgrounds to unite, even if their flag did have a cross or plus sign on it. As always, thanks for viewing.

…HAPPY FACE.
