Happy Sibling's Day
It was a sunny day in April, but Aldy Angelbright was feeling a little down as he woke up. He walked downstairs to get some breakfast and noticed his Mom was in the kitchen.
“Hi sweetie,” She said, “is something wrong?”
“I want to get Minnie something for Sibling’s Day tomorrow, but I can’t think of anything,” Aldy explained.
“She’ll be happy with anything you get,” Sadie told him.
“I know,” He replied, “but Minnie’s more than my big sister, she’s my best friend. I just want to get her something really special.”
“Tell you what, why don’t we go to the mall later and you can pick something else for her?” Ms. Angelbright suggested.
“Thanks Mom!” Aldy said as he hugged her, “you’re the best!”
Aldy gobbled up his breakfast and decided to walk to the local park to get some ideas for his present. As the young boy started to walk in the sunlight,

Good evening, guys! It’s me, the Master of Cuteness, mickeyelric11, and this is another work for Toy Girls’ Arts & Crafts Series, a part which needs more love.     Even with the humor I used, I’m pretty allergic to mean-spirited comedies, especially because, most of the time, and forgive me the arrogance, are done wrong. They set a cast of unlikeable characters as protagonist, the concept of the show is more cliché than the Disney Channel movies, the stories told are so mundane that, more than relatable, strike you so hard because they remind you of what you most hate, but without a good punchline, and so one. That’s the main reason I really loathe sitcoms like “Two and a Half Men”, Seth MacFarlane’s Portfolio doesn’t work for me anymore, I shit on productions from my country like “La Familia P.Luche”, and why I always avoid movies with this execution.

I don’t suck my thumb, guys. I know Comedy is based on misery, and I agree. Humor is basically taking something horrible and show it as not a big deal, with a clever punchline, and so, Mean-spirited Comedies doesn’t really sound like an oxymoron, but something even obvious. Quoting George Carlin: “Comedy doesn’t work unless someone’s getting offended”. And yes, like art, Comedy must provoke, and left the one who consume it different as it found them. That’s why Fuzzy-Bear-Kind of Jokes aren’t funny. But here’s the thing, many mean-spirited comedies fail because they think they only need to be too rauchy, too cruel, or just too disgusting, and people will automatically laugh, skipping totally the step of finding the funny and ironic angle. No, sir, another Golden Rule here which I discovered: Comedy Shows only work when you like the characters. And here’s where the tightrope comes in play: you need to make a punchline from a bad situation, but we must love the people featuring it.

Today, I’m going to talk about one of the greates mean-spirted comedies of all time, and also one of my favorite shows ever, which gave us this adorable character…for a while. For this Sunday:

Cynthia Sanders, from “Malcolm in the Middle”.

What can I say about “Malcolm in the Middle” which hasn’t been beaten on the ground? It’s a majestic show, still fresh until this day, and it’s funny as fuck.

It’s the story of Malcolm Wilkerson, a normal-looking boy from a very dysfunctional and not-very-wealthy family: featuring a very authoritarian, aggressive and strict mother, Lois; a pushover and neurotic husband, Hal, a rebel firstborn which can’t help but to always get in more and more troubles, Francis; a really stupid and cruel bully brother, Reese; and the adorable little brother which only gets the leftovers, Dewey.

However, one day people discover Malcolm is a genius, and his life change…not for the best. This sitcom narrates us the continuing misadventures of Malcolm and his family, ignited for their stupidity, selfishness, arrogance, very obsolete ideals, or just plain bad luck. This show tries to paint a colorful world, but the sad truth is that almost everyone hates the Wilkerson, considered as a plague on the neighborhood. They hated, feared and constantly ostracized, and this poor family can’t really prove the contrary.

“Malcolm in the Middle” may look like just a bunch of miserable people just being miserable with each other, but the magic of this show falls on a simple detail: Cleverness.

This show, to start with, is just magnificently well done. The photography uses unorthodox methods, but everything pays off, and it looks magnificent. You just love what you see here: the illumination, the places, the sceneries, etc.

However, the writing is also very good. First, the characters:

Like you notice, almost all the characters are horrible, especially the protagonist: Lois is manipulative, Hal flees from duties, Francis is so auto destructive, Reese just wants to hurt as much as possible, Malcolm, even as the focus and with some sympathetic traits, is very arrogant (and normally sabotages his chances of happiness for pure pride), and Dewey needs to be an asshole to survive. But here’s the thing, as despicable as they can be, each of the protagonist have likeable features that balance things out: Lois tries to keep their problem children from making more damage, Hal is a loving husband, Francis serves as a mentor for her brothers, Reese gets his just dessert constantly, Malcolm just wants to be happy, and Dewey helps in save the day or punish the bad guys. This things help to grow sympathy for our leads, and to enjoy the stories they feature.

Then, the stories, even if they want to be as harsh as possible, don’t feel uncomfortable because most of the shit presented is caused by our beloved characters, and normally their suffering is caused by their own selfish actions. The Wilkerson are not hated because their neighbors are douches, but because these protagonists have a lot of flaws that affect others. It doesn’t feel free, and there are so many clever criticism and analisis to daily-life troubles, making them very over-the-top, which help to make the misadventures funny to watch.

This show looks mean, vulgar and stupid, but it isn’t: it’s smart, graceful and always puts effort in details. It just wanted to be itself, but it had a lot of fun, and cleverness, in doing it.

Therefore, “Malcolm in the Middle” is still one of my favorite shows, which I still use to watch once in a while. However, that doesn’t mean it’s always flawless.

In very few occasions, the formula doesn’t work and the episodes can get too cringe worthy; that’s why I never return to the pilot. And, for the best or worse, they get rid of characters once it’s done with them, like Cynthia.

I don’t know you, but I really loved Cynthia. She wasn’t only a cute girl, but also a very cool one. At difference from the other Krelboynes, she was more free-spirit, always jolly, but still knew how to defend herself from idiots like Reese, being very strong and combat-savvy.

She served at first like a crush for Malcolm, but the stupidity of the latter kept him from giving the next step; “he just didn’t know how to react”. Puff, fuck puberty!

Then, she left for Europe for a while, only to return with a big pair of boobs.

Sadly, once Malcolm finally started High School, she appeared just for a last time, and we never knew of her again. That’s sad!

Cynthia was funny, likeable, a little complex, and she served a lot as a guardian for Malcolm. But again, she kind of helps to remind those times you ditch a very nice chick just because of your own insecurities. Sigh!

Anyway, to pay tribute to this amazing character, I decided to draw Cynthia Sanders as a Toy Girl.

First, I chose a pose for her, and so, I put her throwing a punch to the air, while making an epic posture.

Because she never got an iconic outfit, I just blended many features of different situations: the best hairstyle, the best blouse, a skirt she once wore, and a pair of shoes I figured out of a very bad quality video.

Even if this show get rid of her, I still remember Cynthia with a smile. I’m sad she didn’t end as Malcolm’s girl, but, maybe it was for the best. Again, a main goal of this show was to tell you that sometimes you are miserable really only for your own stupid actions. Anyways, I still will return to this show, because “Cuteness shall last”.

And here we finish for this week, guys! Thanks again for visiting the Empire of Cuteness. Fun will return next Sunday, and speaking of which, I’m just dying to present you next week’s girl. You see, sadly, this 2019, is the Death Year of three very beloved TV Shows. Many fans will see the dusk of “Game of Thrones”, and others will see the last adventures of our Princess of Mewni. However, a third cartoon, and a very revolutionary one, will also finish its story, which is pretty melancholic. I admit I stopped watching this show for a while, but I’m still thankful for all the joy it gave me. Yeah, it’s true some days are dark and lonely, and maybe you feel sad, but this girl will be there to show that it isn’t that bad.

…sorry, but, I literally have nothing to say here. For this Saturday:

Lillian McGwire, from “Chloe’s Closet”, a request for my amazing friend :iconironraphra:

It’s about a group of little girls which have adventures of fantasy inside a closet…and that’s all what I know.

    What about Lil?

…she is cute, so, Lillian McGwire is a Toy Girl now.

Since she is an insecure kid, I imagined here sitting on the top of a short wall looking at the sky. I find this pretty cute!

    …because “Cuteness shall last”

Yeah, pretty bland entry, and I apologize not only to you, but especially to the requester. Sorry, not only I have never watched this show, but I didn’t have time left. However, for next Saturday, I do have a lot to talk about the work from where this girl comes from. However, a big favor, please: do not hate this work…yet. I’m always open to criticism, as much for positive as for negative, but, nowadays, for some reason, people really love to overreact with their hatred against movies: they don’t even wait for them to hit theaters before starting to boo it. And the most embarrassing part: when it finally arrived to cinemas, it actually was Shit Happens

Why do Network Producers normally cancel a TV Show? Like Chucho Calderón said, the main reasons are:

    1.      Audiences don’t give a fuck for the product.

    2.      It doesn’t make money

    3.      0 Producers

    4.      People behind it want to make a new series of the same concept

    5.      A big feud between the artists and the channel

However, we can also an extra one: Stupidity.

Yes, sometimes it happens that show is not axed because it made something wrong, but because the people on the head of the network lack more Common Sense than Security Guards. For this reason, very beloved, promising, or even cash-cow TV Productions were killed off for the dumbest of reasons, like this one, which gave us this adorable girl. For this Friday:

    Daemona, from “Phantom Investigators”.

Hey, guys: did you love “Life with Loopy”? Me too! It was weird, you fell in love with the characters, and the stories were always full of surprises. However, the main course was the animation. We all have seen stopmotion before finding out this skit on “Kablam!”, but “Life with Loopy” is well remembered for making its short with a blend of stop-motion, live-action, and puppetry, helping in creating a solid identity for itself. Saldy, this show never managed to continue after “Kablam!”, but the people behind it tried one more time with “Phantom Investigators”.

Its’ the story of Daemon, a normal middle school girl, which has formed a little band with her friend called “Phantom Investigators”, with the goal of defending their city against the magical menaces. Her team is formed by Jericho, a boy with telekinetic abilities, Casey, a nerd which can transform into anything, and Kira (not confuse with Light Yagami), a black girl with telepathy. They also have the company of two cute creatures as allies: Wad, a chewing gum sprite, Jinxy, a bad luck demon, and a mento, Professor Felix Navarro.

This show was creepy, as weird as “Life with Loopy”, and I loved it. The stories went as you think: these kids just try to deal with their normal lives until a paranormal shit arrives and they have to defeat the bad guy. However, like any good Horror Show, this cartoon was never shy in getting scary, violent, dark, and even tragic. The stories told her had deaths, evil actions, diabolical villains, and characters having to take hard choices.

In my case, I adored this show, a fucking lot. Airing complete in Latin America, I remember watching it every week day to have fun with the adventure of the day; even if they were only 13.

Again, it was a pleasure to see more of the trademark animation from the guys of “Life with Loopy”, and the premise of the show was very good; again, stop-motion and Horror go hand to hand.

It had everything to be a hit show: likeable characters, funny stories, an interesting world, great animation, and even a toy set on Carl’s Jr…but…it never happened!

You see:

This show originally aired in Kids’ WB on May of 2002, originally to gain a wider female audience. However…IT DID! This show became into the Highest Rated show on the 11:30 Timeslot on Saturday Mornings. So…what was the problem? The network realized this show was losing Male Viewers…while gaining fucking Female Viewers, which was the original idea. So, like a bad rip-off of the Three Stooges, the show cancelled with only a season of 13 episodes (with only 6 aired), Sony cut founding on it, so it won’t picked by any other channel. With all this, “Phantom Investigators” practically was erased from the Animation History.

Man, that sucks! Not only this show was cancelled for a very dumb reason, but it also had to pay the biggest price being 100% innocent: the Oblivion. Again, I’m pretty sure many of you have never heard of this show, or, if you have, you forgot it until today. It’s a shame, but the only things left are to learn from this mistake and trying to kindle this show a little.

Anyways, let’s go with Daemona.

Daemon served as the protagonist for this show, and her concept couldn’t be more ironic. Being not only the unique member without any superpower, she was the leader, the founder, and the only one dumb enough to dress an uniform, while her mates practically didn’t try in the slightest to bear a secret identity, and she also always tried to come up with a slogan for the team.

Being the Batman of her group, she only counted with her great intelligence, leadership skills, and the help of her friends.

Yeah, she does look very goofy on her costume (that was the main idea), but this helps to make her as iconic as possible, and also, without that corny mask, she looked very pretty. In addition, she kept herself from being forgettable by having interesting story arcs, like having to deal with her mentor being a vampire, the life of her grandma, and having relatable Middle School problems, like trying to impress the jerk popular kids, or cheating on an exam.

In order to pay tribute to this forgotten show which brought me so much joy, I found like a perfect idea to draw Daemon as a Toy Girl.

Even if she looks way better like a “civilian”, I knew I had to draw her on her trademark uniform: its cheesiness was what made her so memorable. Also, it was a lot of fun to make.

Because of the Phantom Theme, I knew I had to make a reference to “Yu Yu Hakusho” (specially because this show also managed to have a Carl’s Jr. Toy Line), therefore, I drew Daemon after and image of Yusuke preparing a Spirit Gun. I just loved this idea: she looks so cool!

I feel so bad for this cartoon. Having a lot of potential, it was practically murdered by a group of bozos who think the money comes in a different color depending of the client. Well, the only thing I can ask you for is to try to find the bootleg uploads of the episodes on You Tube (since, of course, this show never got a home media release), because “Cuteness shall last”.

And this is all for today! Thank you again, guys! Meet me next Friday to see our next girl. Who is going to be? Look, I have to be sincere with you: I kind of hate a very popular, and iconic, Superhero. But listen: I actually really like his powers and concept, but I just loathe the treatment it receives in media. Like any other normally kid, I have enjoyed its cartoons and movies, only to outgrow them and stop liking them. I mean, my favorite move of this guy was actually his first sequel…until now! Next Friday, we’ll see his better movie of all time. Hell: it even helped to redeem this terrible animation company!

My parents may still be married, but, since I was a kid, I noticed they got a lot of differences, especially in Entertainment Likes. For example, my mother is more keen in soap operas, romantic comedies and dramas, while my father is a giant fan of Classic Cinema, especially for vintage Mexican Films, and flicks from the 70’s and 80’s. However, they also share some common interests, being this one the one I know he most, wich gave us this character. For this Sunday:

    Grace Sheffield, from “The Nanny”.

Since I was a child, I remember my parents enjoying, laughing and always watching this sitcom. Even if I really didn’t stay to watch it, this show became into one of those sweet blurred memories from childhood.

It’s the story of Fran Fine, a Jewish cosmetic seller which sadly gets dumped, and fired, by her boyfriend, so, circumstances lead her to be hired by the wealthy Maxwell Family as a nanny. Here we find the widowed father Maxwell Sheffield, a British Broadway Producer, the butler Niles, the very arrogant Maxwell’s Business Partner Babcock, and the three children: Maggie, the eldest daughter, Brighton, the only, and middle, son, and the cute Grace.

The show follows the protocol of the bland white family having their life brightened by the presence of a jollier, cockier and unorthodox person, in the shape of a nanny. It’s like “Mary Poppins”, but with laughter track. Fran will bond with the children, introduce her family to the Sheffield, and, obviously, marry the dad to become part of the family.

This show aired for six years, but it managed to earn a giant popularity: it got high ratings, a lot of fans, so many awards, and even foreign remakes, and I find it deserved. Even if I never followed it, the little I saw of this show is pretty good: a cute premise, memorable characters, funny jokes, and even a big sister and a little brother; a details!

But again, the main reason I have remembered this show is for how it’s one of the few fictional works both my parents enjoy, besides “The Godfather” Trilogy…and “Karate Kid”…shit!

Maybe someday I will watch it completely, to finally enjoy it as a whole. Meanwhile, let’s talk about Grace.

She is the classic Sitcom Little Sister: she is the kid character to attract Children Audience, she is there to look cute, she is the most dependent of the character introduced to break the Status Quo, and she helps to portray the Classic Kid Stories Tropes; she is like a Ashley Banks, but white. As original traits, Grace is knows for naming complicated medical conditions and words; AKA, she is like a variation of the Know-it-all Kid. Like I have said, she is the one which got more influenced bu Fran, and so she learnt about her Jewish slang, dressing manners, and even saw Fran as a surrogate mother.

So, seeing Grace Sheffield would be the best way to represent this legendary sitcom, I decided to draw her as a Toy Girl.

The scene here is simple: I drew Grace posing for a photo while giving a giant smile, which I stuck out with a trope sparkle.

To make her as iconic as possible, I put her in her school uniform, which was a little easier to draw than Ashley’s, since I had practice when I drew this one before.

Being an iconic symbol of the 90’s, “The Nanny” is still remembered as a very beloved and funny sitcom which represented better times of many people. I should really give it the time it deserved, because “Cuteness shall last”.

Alright, it’s all over for this weekend, and I thank you all for coming back again. I really love you all: you are such a magnificent audience, and you deserve the best of treatments. So, next Sunday, I will reward you all with the Best Sitcom of All Time. And I’m serious. Next Sunday, we’ll get back to the meanest, rudest, but funniest, live-action comedy which has ever existed. Where the biggest bastard protagonists are, but also the best jokes too. What? Do you prefer something nicer like “Full House”? No way! I really love you, but, YOU ARE NOT THE BOSS OF ME NOW!

For a while, especially on the 80’s and 90’s, there was such a big trend of turning films into cartoons, even if they weren’t really Kid Films…or suitable for children. Yeah, for a while many people seemed like a great idea to turn R-Rated Material (“Robocop”), auto conclusive stories (“Little Shop of Horrors”) or even flicks with so inappropriate material form kids (“Dumb and Dumber”) into Saturday Morning Cartoons, just with, of course, some little “retooling”. This came in two shapes: a comic relief to turn those serious stories into something more family friendly, or adding a kid character so the children could identify with someone on the show. This was the case of this cartoon, which gave us this adorable girl. For this day:

Clyde of Dundee, from “Highladner: The Animated Series”, a request for :icondim432:

To be honest, I have never watched the original film “Highlander”. The only thing I know I took it from Wikipedia: a story of immortal warrior which could only be killed by beheading, the movie was a box office bomb, but it then turned into a cult following with some sequels and spin-offs, etc.

And I have never watched the cartoon spin-off either. So, no idea about Clyde.

She wasn’t from the original film, she took the protagonist as her surrogate brother, she is there to look cute…so…Clyde of Dundee is a Toy Girl now.

Here, I decided to exploit her role of being in the cartoon to look cute by putting her laying on her belly, swinging her legs, and watching to the sky looking adorable. TO be honest, I really loved how this pic ended up looking.

Maybe I should one day give a try to this movie of Highlander: even if it was a flop at its time, still some people found some beauty on it. Who knows? Maybe I would like it, because “Cuteness shall last”

Sorry for this: a stupid way of coming back, a stupid way of executing this, and a lazy one too. I’m sorry, you deserve more than this. I apologize, and I will put a lot of effort to make next Saturday worth it, and speaking of which. For next weekend, we are finally getting back to my main course: Preschool Shows. Man, it was about time. And, even if it’s a show I have never watched, at least I’m going for a Big Sister of a Little Brother, so, cuddles! Next Saturday, we’re getting into an imaginary land inside a closet, without any homosexual undertone ;)

Hey, mickeyelric11. I know that you're still in a rush to finish your Siblings Day project for tomorrow, but there was something about that same OC I have that I mentioned earlier.
