My my, I'm ASTOUNDED by the quality in this all. The game looks just really fluid to play so far!

Kudos to the whole team for working on this, and I'm sure I'll be here to put down my support in the future.

I was wondering when I'd see more from this game! Silver Surfer ain't got nothing on the Golden Surfer dudette in the background. Cover looks fantastic, same great work as always. Colors, expressions, shading, all that jazz, just as good as ever. I'll be sure to check out the demo, sounds like the soundtrack turned out well!..... *Sniff*...

Hee hee.

After spending a little time with it, I gotta say, that I was really impressed. Absolutely love the parallax scrolling, the game was much faster paced than I thought. 'Course I loved the art style, and the tone of the game had a great blend of Mega Drive and PC Engine aesthetics. (Maybe you sneaked some other stylistic touches in there, but those were the ones I picked up on) Music is very catchy, but some of it is a bit more intense than I initially imagined. It's also a little harder than I thought it was going to be, but I like it like that. Very tricky platforming in a few sections. I thought it was going to be a nice little romp of a game, but seems like it's much above that.

Only nitpick I'd have, if any, is that the hammer feels a tad weird and it's a little tricky to manage when you're moving at high speeds. Maybe if you added a slightly greater sense of impact, but now I'm just being critical. Really, really awesome stuff so far, I am quite impressed. If there's anything I could ever do to contribute, like make a promotional video for the game, let me know. (Done a few things like that in the past) I'd love to just for fun, but I've probably pestered you enough at this point, haha. Pardon my over sized comment.

Mind if I ask you to elaborate a bit more on that point, so that perhaps I may improve on the issue you're having?

Hope I don't come across as snooty in any way, I'm really homered that you'd notice my critique! But honestly, it's very nitpicky, though I examined it a little bit more so I could elaborate. When you use the hammer, the character slows down, mostly to a stop, it can be a little disorienting when you are moving at high speeds, but it actually does help with hitting enemies that are moving towards you. Maybe if the character retained the acceleration, although the hammer would probably then feel more artificial, because it only seems natural that the use of it would cause some change of movement for the character. I was thinking, maybe if the character popped up a bit when the hammer hit the ground, but still kept the speed. (I realize that it if the player pops up off the ground a bit, they would be unable to jump, though. That could be an issue, but perhaps it could be programmed where they are still able to jump in this state, and it wouldn't raise their position for game balancing purposes.) So basically, I'd like to maintain the speed, but the hammer would still need to "feel" weighted when you use it, in some way.

Hope that helps, and again, maybe you should stick with what you've got. Since the hammer is such a big part of the game, it's important that it's properly functional, and I think it's just fine in the state that it's in, so I wouldn't want to complicate matters with my nitpicks.

Nah, don't worry, I've dealt with much larger comments >w>
And I do make huge comments myself too sometimes ^^'

I'm glad you enjoyed the demo Yui Hirasawa (Castanets Dance) [V1]
Well, the game respects the limitations of the Sega Genesis, but the Genesis and the PC engine do use the same colour palette and stuff... But I took level design cues from Super Nintendo and PC engine games only... None from any Genesis game surprisingly >w>
And well, sometimes we feel that a game's controls are weird at first but get get used to them later, perhaps that's the case for you and the hammer... But well, that's just my guess...

Well, I'm accepting donations to help the development of the game! And donations are going to be rewarded!
Anybody who donates $5 or more will get a free downloadable copy of the game for their OSes of choice!
And anybody who donates $20 or more will get a free downloadable OST arranged in CD quality!
You can check out all the donation values and rewards here.
And if you can't donate, you can still help by spreading the word and letting the people know about the game and how truly retro it is!

Any kind of support will be highly appreciated ^^

I was kinda struggling to come up with things to critique with the game. Felt like it wouldn't sound like I was being genuine if I didn't say something of the sort, you know how it is, but I'm sure if you leave it the way it is, then you've got a good reason.

I should definitely get the game, but I'll probably support it in some other way. I may end up asking you to send me some of the sprites so I can do an animation down the road, (I'd definitely enjoy that) but it's up to you.

Also, looking at some of the stuff you've done with "limitations in mind," that's beyond me. You've got to have some serious technical knowledge and skill for that. Not to mention, I find it slightly unfair that you can be so talented at drawing, music, programming, and the like, haha.

Actually, I'm not programming it >w>
The game is being programmed by 2 guys from TGA, and I'm just making the graphics, animations and music...
And well, I've studied the hardware of the Genesis thoroughly, and I've done everything I could to make sure the game could run in real hardware... I dedicate a LOT to this kind of stuff you know ^^

But well, I think I'm pretty mediocre for making original music =~=';
I'm only good at arranging existing music, and I struggle to arrange some more complicated music... And I SUCK at making original music, I take way too many cues from other music and because of that I end up making songs that sound like rip-offs =A=';
At least I'm ripping off music that nobody ever listened to xD

Pfft, my mistake! Shoulda done my research! I didn't know how much of the game you were solely in charge of. From what I've heard, you seem like a great composer.

When I was in my early teen years, I'd hack GBA game music, and send it to my friend, pretty much claiming that I made the tunes, but I would steal a lot of stuff from extremely obscure Chinese games, haha! So, I know that tactic, but it ain't justifiable. Hey, if you twist it around enough, it can become your own creation. I taught myself how to make music, and just about all of it came from my passion for various game OSTs. If I came from that area, I'm sure you can pull off some sweet things.

The only real technical knowledge I think I utilize is trying to work with the number of sound channels systems have when trying to compose music of that style. Sometimes I can still find a way to screw it up.

(Totally unrelated, I forgot to mention how fantastic the addition of branching paths is to your game)

Well, the most original song I made thus far is one where I took the bass from one game, the main melody mixed from 2 other games and made my own drums (because you know, making drums using drum samples is pretty easy) and also made my own harmonic support (which is also relatively easy)

And thank you very much ^^
I've always loved the idea of branching paths in a game! I mean, I like linear games, but a linear game with branching paths is even better because you get to see different things each time you play the game!

Well, the soundtrack isn't finished yet, I only have a handful of songs...
But if you donate $20 to help the development of the game you get not only the game for free as soon as it's completed (before it goes on steam and GOG) but also the soundtrack in a 90s style CD quality!
And when the game is out there will be a sound test, and you'll unlock each song the moment you listen to them in game, that way you can rip the songs to your MP3 player or something, do whatever you wish with it...
Either way, I hope you enjoy the game when it's out ^^

It takes some getting used to, but when you do get used to it it's pretty easy ^^
I personally can't go back to Musagi (the software I used before for making music) after getting used to Deflemask, my music gets done so much faster in Deflemask and it can be exported into a ROM that will play in real hardware!

You can even import instruments from real Sega Genesis games!
Just use VGM2pre and load VGMs from Sega Genesis games that you download from Zophar's Domain, and dump the instruments to the y12 format that Deflemask supports ^^
But I generally prefer to use the Turbografx 16 soundchip, it's easier to use, I can draw my own wavetables and I honestly like its sound better...
