Whitetail Drake

Drakes come in a wide range of sizes, but one of the smallest is the whitetail drake. Native to temperate lowlands and wet areas, these tiny dragons are barely larger than a sparrow, but they are very feisty and territorial, driving away drakes, dragonflies, and birds from their hunting grounds and favourite perches. They eat small insects mainly, but will prey upon anything they can catch - fish, amphibians, small mammals - and will opportunistically feed on bird eggs, carrion, and very occasionally fruit or mushrooms. Like most drakes they do not hoard treasure, but they are attracted by shiny objects, possibly mistaking the shine for the aggressive tail-flashing of a rival whitetail.
