Man, I should be used to it by now but I still think that it is REALLY strange when someone downloads literally hundreds of images from my Deviant page...which let's face it would probably take hours...But they don't leave a single comment. This happened a few times over the weekend. I don't know, I just think that's weird ;)
I've been reminded that I haven't mentioned that I will be attending Boston Comic Con in August...so here you go, I will be there. It is actually the only other con I am confirmed to be at this year. Come by and say hey and if you want to set up a pre-con commish to pick up at the show, just drop me a line.
If you were waiting for me to open my commission list for Megacon or Heroes con, consider it done. I will be drawing at both shows as usual, but I always encourage folks who know what they want to get on my pre-con list and you can just pick up the art at the show...this takes some of the drawing stress off the weekend since I can only draw so much at a con with all of the craziness.
Drop me a line for details if you are interested.
The sad news of Darwyn Cooke's passing will leave a huge hole in the comic world for me.
While, there are many comic artists whose work I admire, and I am constantly impressed by lots of artists chops, Darwyn was definitely my favorite contemporary comic book creator, no question.
As soon as he arrived on the scene it was love at first sight for me.
His work embodies everything I love about the best comics...super clear storytelling, amazing drawing and a real sense of adventure and even, dare I say it, joy...which is sadly lacking in most "modern' comics.
I believe that people like Darwyn who use their lives to put some beauty back into
I have not set up many cons this year at this point and most of the ones that I have committed to fall within about a one month period...yikes. So if you are attending any of these, come by artist alley and say hey. I am taking pre con commishes for all of these so the sooner you contact me the better because May/June is going to be crazy hectic :)
I never got into the whole Facebook thing personally. So if you search me, you will find a dead page. But I just set up a fan page so I can use it for show off my art to another audience. Please pass it around, I could use some eyes on it ;)
I can't help but think of this as my "SDCC FAREWELL TOUR" since I can't count on automatically getting a spot in the every dwindling artist alley any more. So, I will have to soak up even more cosplay and crowds and exclusive items than I usually do this time around. I will be in a different spot in artist alley than I have been in the past I think 5 years...look for me at BB #14. I will have a new sketchbook, prints, some art and will be drawing the whole time at the con. Swing by for a chat, artist alley is often the calmest part of the whole hall ;)
I mentioned to another artist I know that Prismacolor marker sets were on sale at half price online and it got me thinking about putting in my two cents about drawing with makers.
I get a lot of questions about doing marker drawings and one thing I have found is that many aspiring marker users think that Copic markers must be some kind of magic wand They cost about twice as much as most others so they must somehow jump your skills to the next level right? Well, I am here to say that I have tried pretty much everybody's brand of markers and none of them make me draw any better I like the Copics because I can refill them, but heck, I refill
