WRB, issue 2, p. 14 by MichaelCleaves WRB, issue 2, p. 14 by MichaelCleaves
So I have managed to finish only one page in the last two weeks... damn spiritual exhaustion! (I'd insert a long diatribe about the state of comic conventions here, but no need to bore you with details and I kind of come across as a jackass in the story anyway...). This is the first page of the second act of "Caracalla, a Tragedy." Here the Caledonians are beginning their revolt against the Romans, and soon our whole crew will be called to the scene. There is not supposed to be any text (I am trying to be arty and not have anyone who is not Roman speak, for various reasons).

You draw legions of soldiers with an admirable eye for abstract implication of thousands. I admire your talents.

Uh, damn sorry to hear comic conventions were a bad experience. I knew you were eager to see what would happen.
Uhm, about this page, I admit it's very strange to see a text-less Michael Cleaves page. But this one is very effective (also because of the contrast with the previous ones), and the sense of movement (both physical than in time) is rendered perfectly, and gains some kind of epic tone. Oh, and I especially love the first panel :)

Well, at least one more textless page is coming. I'll let you know about what went wrong at the convention through a Serious note (one of the perks of being a contributor to a group is that you can send your friends notes that no one else can read).

Will wait to read about that (oh, contributors secrets: that's cool :))

:wow: It looks great! I always believed that clean lines speak most of ones' skill (although, ahem, I'm surely not the right person to say this). Arty or not, it's a very smart page, and I'm glad you're back after been spiritually exhausted

Thanks, partner! I have to say, though, the cleanliness of these lines has more to do with new tools than any skill on my part.

Actually, no. I'm cheating. Since I got better paper I can use... pens and markers... I won't do it all the time, but there were such small details in these pages that I sort of had to.
