Iray Benchmark by MHutchinson Iray Benchmark by MHutchinson
Rendered 4/15/18

Shortly after DS 4.8 was released in 2015, one of their Published Artists, who goes by the name SickleYield, created this scene for users to benchmark their new Iray-compatible hardware with.  It uses items that come with the Genesis 2 Female Starter Essentials.  You can download it from her DA page below:

Iray Scene For Time Benchmarks by SickleYield

As of today, I am now running dual GTX 1080 Ti's, specifically the FTW3 edition by EVGA. It's the last hardware upgrade I will ever do without buying a new motherboard, RAM, and CPU. Simply put, my PC is now completely, fully optimized for Iray. This is my final benchmark with my current specs. The components below are 5 years old:

CPU: Intel Core i7-4770K 3.5 GHz
Motherboard: ASUS Z87-Pro
RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series DDR3 32 GB

Previous GPU setup and render times:

GTX 980 Ti: 3 min 1.47 sec
GTX 1080 Ti: 2 min 13.34 sec
GTX 980 Ti + GTX 1080 Ti: 1 min 25.58 sec

New dual GTX 1080 Ti setup and render time: 1min 14.5sec

In summary, I just paid $1070 to shave 10 seconds off the render time for this scene.  Was it worth it?  Yes and no.  I am very happy to have matching cards now and faster is always better, though I'm surprised it wasn't as fast as I was hoping - less than a minute at least.  For what marginal difference there was, I really wish the card hadn't cost so much.  Alas, such is the nature of supply and demand...
