Telouet: The Reception Hall

Description

A local guide walks into my shot as I was shooting the main reception hall at the Glaoui kasbah in the high atlas of Morocco

We had driven for about three hours from Marrakesh in fog and took a small winding damaged road to get to what my guide books said: "the most extraordinary sight of the atlas".

To tell you the truth I found the place not so extraordinary(compared to everything else we had seen till then), except for two things, firstly the way the place was situated with its green tiles in the valley. secondly was this room. It was like a hidden gem among the plane white washed rooms and crumbling walls of the kasbah.

Home to a ruling family(the Glaoui ) in the middle 1800's, the family wanted to demonstrate their increasing wealth and power. the palace is a testament to their rise and fall.

Awesome use of perspective! I also love the man's blue cloth, it adds that little dab of colour which makes the whole thing work :D
