Now that history has been made, and possibly not in a good way, here are my thoughts:
To all my overseas friends, I’m sorry. Many tried, but the establishment lost. Similar to, although probably far worse than, the Brexit upset, polls got it wrong and the populous made it known that they were fed up with the current order. We’ve now elected* a famous person with no governing experience.
>Not to 6am fact check this, but didn’t Arnold Schwarzenegger have no political experience when he became governor of California? That went alright for the most part as far as I’m aware…
>Now that it seems all the branches of government are red, things will actually get done.
>Trump’s own power will be lessened by the checks and balances built into our government.
>The supreme court is up for grabs. Now it will go red. With all pillars of power that way, progressive legislation for the rights of minorities, women and the environment will be blocked or overturned.
>Trump’s own power will not be controlled as much as it could be because everything is red.
>Trump claims to be a climate change denier. Whether this is true or not, many republicans are and they now control all branches of government. Our environment is in danger.
>Trump has the nuclear launch codes starting 2017.
>We and the world can hope that the Trump we saw on the campaign trail is not the one we will see in the oval office. That he turns around and becomes a moderate and reasonable president.
>We can hope that the country comes together now that the election is over. It may be made easier for the populous, since the establishment lost. For those in Washington who were not up for re-election, it might be an interesting few years.
