Does Chuck Norris have a third arm? No? Didn't think so.

They actually did that in another part of the movie too. When Coraline goes to tell the Other Father that supper's ready as he's about to play the piano. Right after he says "This piano plays me" the arms yank him to turn around and there are like 4 hands :XD:

Twitlight fangirls: But Edward sparkles like a purdy disco ball!
Edward: :dummy: *SPARKLEEEE*
Coraline fans: ... :| SPARKLES ARE LAME COMPARED TO A THIRD ARM!

...Actually, sparkles were lame even before this! (Coraline beats Twitlight any day!!) :giggle: Awesome picture! That's the weirdest, coolest thing I've seen all day. xDD Wow... NicktoonsSquad is right, how could they have missed that?!

Yes take that Twitlight!

:iconedwardsparkleplz:

Wait, if Coraline has a magic 3rd arm, and is related to :iconindyplz: (indy), then it isn't a stretch to say she's also related to :iconnorrisplz:(Chuck Norris)...?

It was deliberate. It's one of the ways to simulate motion blur in stop motion. Will Vinton tried a similar technique in The Little Prince but the method turned out looking a little surreal. Aardman uses the same technique occasionally (very, very sparingly) when a character travels too far a distance between frames. Coraline's arm is very thin, and it travels a great distance between the frames. so to prevent strobing, they compensated by filling the distance with an inbetween position.

Ahhh, I see! :D That's so cool, thanks for the information!

Wait, what the heck? xDDDDDD Is this an actual still from the movie or some weird photoshopped thing? x'DDD

I can assure you that this wasn't 'shopped. I'm pretty sure what happened here was just an example of really good pause timing on the picture-taker's part and really bad framing skills on the animator's part. XDD

It was deliberate. They added it in post. There are many techniques in animation that are used in place of motion blur. Our eyes are least forgiving with stop motion, but there are techniques like this used in all forms of animation. You can "blur" 2d by smearing the image: [link] but you can't blur puppets. Someone decided that the distance that her arm travels between frames when she throws the stone is too great, so to minimize "strobbing" they compensated by filling the distance with an extra arm.

:icongaspplz: ... And I thought leaving the lines between their faces was bad...

HOW'D THEY MISS THAT?!

It was on purpose. Read some of my other comments in this thread for my answer why.

I just read your comments and it makes sense now. It's like those regular goofs in almost every movie. But still, she's like a cool Hindu Goddess in here. :XD:
