The premise of the AU is the same as the original Horrortale.
Frisk goes through in a neutral run, killing Asgore and leaving Undyne to rule.

The reign surprisingly flourished under Undyne’s guide, and the monsters still retained hope for a good future.
However, one day an ominous signal came for outer space, readings showed a massive solar flare was about to hit the moon the monsters resided in.
Alphys told Undyne about the incoming danger but the two decided to keep it hidden as the single notion of it would have caused massive havoc in the kingdom.

Months passed, and as the faithful day of judgement came closer yet closer the skies grew a dark orange that englobed the moon.
The puny atmosphere of the moon they resided in couldn’t stand a chance against the imminent wave of radiation that intoxicated their home.

The few that knew the arrival of the event had prepared for it and were safe through utilizing hazmat suits.
But the ones that were poor and clueless could only hope to survive the high levels of deadly radiation that were casted upon them.

The flare soon faded and the skies grew black yet again, however the damage had already been done, turning the whole moon in a radioactive wasteland were the weakest perished and the strong could do nothing to help…


Only a few monsters seemed “immune” to the effects of radiation poisoning, one of them being Sans who was trying his best to help the ones that fell ill due to the plague.
The queen was desperate to find some sort of “cure” to all the pain and misery in her kingdom.

When everything seemed so grim an idea came to Alphys’s mind.
Maybe the cure was closer than they thought, they knew Sans was weirdly immune to the radiation.
Maybe, just maybe, if they were able to run some experiments on Sans they could figure out what caused him to be immune.

The two has pinpointed that his innate immunity must originate from his incredible power and planned to extract it from the main exhaustion point of said power, his eyes…
They finalized the plan and invited Sans to court with the excuse of having finally figured out a cure for his brother.
There, Undyne pinned him to the ground and brutally removed his eyes.
Only leaving Sans’s apparent carcass on the floor.

She put the eyes in containment for research and ordered her guards to throw out the body.
But Sans suddenly woke up, like he had been resurrected from death and this time was filled with vengeance…
He went to Alphys, who had been watching the whole time, ripped her hazmat suit leaving her exposed to radiation and killed most of Undyne’s guards before going back to Snowdin.

Leaving the monsters one again without hope in a broken world..

-Sans-
He is now fully blind due to having lost his eyes and doesn’t talk much.
Due to his power being removed he’s now also suffering from radiation poisoning and is very tired all the time.
Has enhanced hearing abilities after the incident so he’s still dangerous even if blind.
Doesn’t want to get helped even if he’s sick but Papyrus keeps insisting on giving him aid.
High paranoia due to getting betrayed by Undyne and Alphys.


-Papyrus-
At first he also suffered from Radiation poisoning but got better afterwards.
He still shows some effects and feels more tired than usual but does his best.
He really cares for Sans and tries to help in any way he can but Sans refuses his help.
Really the only altruistic and kind monster out there.


-Extras-

-Radiation poisoning doesn’t really work on monsters the same way it does on humans.
It still has the same effects (fatigue, fever, nausea, etc.) but it behaves much more like a traditional disease, being curable and such, however it can still cause permanent damage.

-The way radiation affects a monster also depends on how Determined they are so stronger monsters will be affected less (or not at all like Sans) while weaker ones are more likely to die by it.

-The policy, isn’t really “eat or be eaten” here, it’s more of “Everyone for themselves”.
Basically at some point monsters lost trust in each other (except for a few) so most are alone.

-Food also isn’t as big of problem here compared to the original, here food isn’t really even missing, it’s just more of it has been contaminated by radiation.

-Pretty much the only monsters who don’t/didn’t suffer from radiation poisoning are the rich ones close to Undyne that could afford an hazard suit.
