Metamorphosis

One of my photos has been accepted into in the juried exhibition, Metamorphosis   darkroomgallery.com/ex103 at the Darkroom Gallery.  Essex Junction, Vermont, USA.  The show opens on July 25th, 2018 and closes on September 2nd, 2018.


The juror is Wendi Schneider   www.wendischneider.com/      She holds an AA in Art History from Stephens College in Columbia, MO and a BA in Painting from Newcomb/Tulane in New Orleans. She turned to photography in the early ‘80s to capture moments of models to reference for paintings and began layering glazes on her photographs to create a more personal interpretation.  

Gilded vellum photographs from her current series States of Grace have been exhibited in solo exhibits at The Griffin Museum of Photography in Winchester, MA and Galeria Photo/Graphic in San Miguel de Allende, MX, and in group exhibits in more than 60 venues including A Gallery For Fine Photography, Panopticon Gallery, and the Berlin Foto Biennale. Wendi's work has been featured in Blur,DiffusionLenscratchB&W Magazine, Silvershotz, Adore Chroma, and as a Rule Breaker on Don't Take Pictures. A Critical Mass finalist in 2017, Schneider has been honored by the International Photography Awards, the International Color Awards, the Spider Awards, the Gala Awards and the Julia Margaret Cameron Awards.

The juror is Christy Karpinski,  www.christykarpinski.com/   a fine art photographer who received a BA in Women’s Studies from the University of Arizona  and an MFA in Photography from Columbia College Chicago . She currently teaches photography and web design at Columbia College Chicago and Evanston Arts Center. She  is also the founder and editor of F-Stop Magazine, www.fstopmagazine.com/  an online photography magazine that promotes contemporary photography from established and emerging photographers.

The juror is photographer and writer William Albert Allard  www.williamalbertallard.com/ who has been a major force at National Geographic and in mainstream photography for over 50 years. It is said that as an intern in 1964 his intimate photographs of the Amish of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, were regarded as a landmark in the photographic evolution of the magazine. A former contributor to Magnum Photos, Allard has been published in most of the major magazines in the United States and abroad. Allard is one of the few photographers of his generation whose entire professional body of work is in color.

The juror is  street photographer Bruce Gilden.   www.brucegilden.com/  He is best known for his candid close-up photos of people on the streets of New York City, using a flashgun. He has had numerous books of his work published, and is the subject of the documentary film: Misery Loves Company: The Life and Death of Bruce Gilden (2007). He has worked in black & white photography most of his life, but recently has begun shooting color and digital in recent years.

The juror is David H. Wells   davidhwells.com/ whose photography and film making  are a combination of fine art and documentary. His  work is created on commercial assignment and through grant-funded projects. Wells uses still, time-lapse, and moving images as well as audio to create award-winning narratives. He is affiliated with Aurora Photos and has had assignments with publications like  Life Magazine, National Geographic Magazine, The New York Times Magazine, The Philadelphia Inquirer Magazine, etc. His work has been featured in solo exhibits at Brown University, U.C. Berkeley, and Harvard University. Wells has taught classes at the University of Pennsylvania and at the Maine Media Workshops. He is on the faculty of the International Center for Photography in NYC.

The juror is Michael Kirchoff,  www.michaelkirchoff.com/   a commercial and fine art photographer whose career spans over twenty-five years.  Kirchoff’s fine art imagery has garnered recognition from the IPA Awards, the Prix de la Photographie in Paris, Photographer’s Forum, and Critical Mass. His photographs have been published in Black & White (US and UK) Seities, Esquire (Russia) New Statesman, Blur, Adore Noir, Fraction, SHOTS, and website like Lenscratch and Light Leaked. He continues to exhibit prints internationally in solo and group exhibitions. Kirchoff is also an editor at Blur Magazine, a charter member of the LA Center for Photography, and has been a board member of the LA chapter of the American Photographic Artists (APA).

Two of my photos have been accepted, with one receiving an honorable mention award, in the the juried exhibition, 'Dreams', at the Darkroom Gallery, Essex Junction, Vermont, USA. The show opens on January 5th and closes on January 29th, 2017.  darkroomgallery.com/ex90


The juror is Susan Burnstine  susanburnstine.com/  who is an award winning fine art photographer originally from Chicago now based in Los Angeles. Susan is represented in galleries across the world, widely published throughout the globe, conducts workshops internationally and has also written for several photography magazines, including a monthly column for Black and White Photography Magazine (UK).

Her work and processes are really amazing.  
Burnstine sought to find a way to portray her dream-like visions entirely in-camera, rather than with post-processing digital manipulations. To achieve this, she has created twenty-one, handmade film cameras and lenses that are frequently unpredictable and technically challenging. The cameras are primarily made out of plastic, vintage camera parts, and random household objects, with single-element lenses molded from plastic and rubber.

She studied Art History at Vassar College, has written hundreds of essays for art books and exhibition catalogs, curates one or two exhibitions each year, publishes short fiction, and speaks in public at galleries, schools, and cultural institutions nationally.

The juror is noted photographer and founder of the night photography organization, The Nocturnes, Lance Keimig. www.thenightskye.com/ He is best known for his night photography and his book, Night Photography and Light Painting, Finding Your Way in the Dark, www.thenightskye.com/books/ which was published by Focal Press in August of 2010, and has been translated into 6 languages. He has taught at the New England School of Photography in Boston since 2000, and has also taught at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, The Photographic Resource Center at Boston University, The Houston Center for Photography, and leads independent workshops across the country. Keimig is a frequent speaker and workshop instructor for photographic events around the country. He has presented and taught at the Photo Plus Expo in New York, and was a featured speaker and workshop instructor at Estudio Brasil in Saõ Paulo, Brazil. He has lectured and taught for the Scottish Photographers Association in Glasgow, The School of Visual Arts in NY, B&H Event Space, and The New England Camera Club Council among others. His photographs are held in numerous collections including The Art Complex Museum In Duxbury, MA, The Boston Athenaeum, The Boston Public Library, and the The Grace Museum in Abilene, TX.

The juror is Olaf Willoughby   olafwilloughby.com/  Many of his  photos are taken with  the classic Leica M rangefinder camera.   His work has been exhibited in the UK and the USA and he has authored articles for leading photography magazines and guest blogged on top photo websites. Olaf is a photographer and writer living in London. His work is about Pattern Detection. Exploring the ebb and flow of energy around us.  It is also diverse, involving everything from advocacy to collaborative projects, from multiple exposures to street photography.
