So it's been since October that I've bothered to update my journal.  What have I been up to since last time.

Well, for starters I had a death in the family.  That was sort of sucky.  I think I'm repressing about 90% of the emotions that came with the news of the death as I haven't really had a need to break down and cry since the day I found out.  I have been spending a lot of time and effort on developing the side project that I've been working on.  I have been drawing, but mostly (okay, truthfully, all) traditionally.  Some of the drawings I can share, some (which I drew on documents that contain sensitive information) I cannot.  That is really unfortunate because some of the best drawings are, of course, on those sensitive documents :XD:.  I'll begin posting art as soon as I have some time to scan and clean them.

In completely unrelated news, when you dream do you have serial dreams (where they continue off or are somewhat a continuation of the previous dream, part of a cohesive, well at least dream cohesive, storyline that arcs across several dreams) or just a stand alone dream (where it has no connection to anything else).  Most of my dreams are serial dreams.  From what I can remember I have about six different series that are unrelated to each other.  Two of them are about wars (but different wars), another is about ghosts, one deals with my subconscious desire for an alternate me, one is primarily about crystals, and the last of them is about watching anime (or playing video games) that don't exist.  Not particularly exciting like the others, but it irks me when I wake up and want to watch or play the dream items.

Anyways, thanks for reading (if you did).

It's hard to believe that I've been on dA for nine whole years.  It's even funnier because my friend :iconasakuramei: is celebrating her 10th deviantart birthday on the same day.  Talk about coincidences.  What to say about this day?  It'd be better if it were a decade :XD:.

Joking aside though, I'd like to thank all of my watchers, the community and even the people I watch (or stalk, really because I hardly interact with them).  Each person who looks at my art (whether they favourite or comment is irrelevant) gives me enough of a boost to attempt to create another piece of art.  I apologize sincerely for my lack of updates in this regard, and because I'm in a somewhat good place with my art I might as well say: I will open up requests for this day.  So for 24 hours since this journal is posted, just give me a comment, a reference and I'll see what I can do.  Since beggars can't be choosers, I'll accept anything (just realize that certain areas will be obviously harder to do than others.  Keep in mind that it'll be a sketch, and that it won't be coloured.  Probably only waist up.  So, if you don't mind a sketch, ask for it.  Anyways, thanks again.  I appreciate all of you.

Hello everyone.  I've been sketching a lot lately.  Not a lot of updates to be had today.  Was my grandparent's anniversary today, so, go them.  AsakuraMei is coming out here soon to go to my cousin's wedding in Calgary.  That'll be exciting.  Thanksgiving is coming up, so we're having the big family dinner on Saturday due to my parents going to some backwater place where my sister lives (maybe?  I don't actually know).  Got some new watchers, so I must be doing something right.

Oh, I have a new nephew.  He was born in June, on the first (I think, I'm horrible with dates, honestly).  He was born premature but seems to be doing quite well for himself now.  My other nephew's birthday is coming up on the...I want to say 27th...  That other nephew would be the newest one's brother.  There was a teacher strike here in B.C. but it seems to be over.  That means that the kids (all estimated half million of them) can finally go to school!  Huzzah.  This should help the younger children, like my nephew (older) build social skills and hang out with his friends in class.  The problem lies with the four months between when school ended for the year and when it starts up.  I don't envy any of the catch up the teachers or the students will have to do.

That's all for now.

So, I returned to my home last night.  I didn't do much yesterday on account of attempting to regulate to the new (old) time zone and copious unpacking.  Today is going to be a better day.  I'll get some work done on my side projects, work on my taxes, play some more Bravely Default, and maybe, if I have the time, draw something nice.  Lately all I have been doing is quick sketches for AsakuraMei.

I don't really have anything else to add.  My hand has healed up into pair of nice scars, sometimes I can feel something moving under the skin.  I tried to walk on my leg when it was asleep and I ended up injuring my foot (temporarily mind you).

So, I'm staying here at AsakuraMei's house, and I went next door to go walk her brother's dog, as he phoned and said that he wasn't going to be home to do so.  I get over there to find out that he is actually there, and there was no point making the trip over.  So I make my way back (seriously, it's like maybe six feet away) and both my legs go out from under me and I end up on the ground.  It would almost be a comedic moment if I didn't scrape the skin off the pads on my left ring and middle fingers, and gash open my right hand.  Now, granted, it was only bleeding a little, and the pain was somewhat bearable, but I think that was the initial shock, because yesterday (one day after falling) it was pretty painful.  Today the pain level is relatively low, so I'm doing some typing.  Now, as far as the gory details go, for those who are really interested, it's two cuts on the right palm, and on the right ring finger on the knuckle.  One palm cut is about an inch long, and about a centimeter wide, fairly shallow so that one has healed up rather nicely in the short amount of time it had to do so.  The other palm cut is about half an inch wide, by about half an inch long, is fairly deep and is extremely painful, and located near the heel of the palm (where the thumb's main side to side movement comes from).  Anyways, the whole thing is pretty ugly.

So, short news is, I won't be drawing much for a while, until my hand heals.  I'm right-handed so the lack of mobility of the hand will surely affect my drawing capabilities.  Winter sucks.

Hello all my undead watchers, and my living ones as well.  Not sure if the dead ones can still hear me, but we'll try this anyways.

First I would like to say that AsakuraMei is having a hard time of things, you should go over and support her by buying a commission, should you have the disposable income.  If not, don't worry about it, we all know that money can get tight sometimes.  Either way, go look at her journal regarding the reason for her constant open slots for commissions.

*cough* Now onto why I haven't posted anything for a while (well, I posted a non-valentine's picture but that hardly counts).  First couple weeks into January I was battling bronchitis and pneumonia, had a bit of blood come up when I coughed.  Had to attend a funeral, and then get better.  I ran a fever for about eight days, never a fun thing, but them's the breaks.  After finally getting over the whole sickness I was just weak, so I resorted to my favourite pastime- drawing on napkins.  They're unforgiving, you see, so it's sort of a challenge.  Anyways, when I was well enough to start drawing again, I lent my tablet to AsakuraMei so that she could work on commissions (having misplaced her own tablet).  We had been passing it back and forth for a while until she finally looked for it.

Currently I am working on storyboarding and scripting the approved concept for my client, who could remain anonymous but I think it's fairly obvious.  We have the plot down, and all the basic ideas ready, we just need to get to storyboarding and the script.  The part that I am going to find the least fun is scripting it all.  Ugh, I hate scripting, honestly.  That's part of the reason why when I game, I never have a clear concept of what I'm going to do in the game, just a direction and let the players show me the way they want to go.  Can't really do that with a comic, though.  Well, I'm sure if it wasn't supposed to be a coherent storyline, sure, but otherwise not a good idea.  I'm actually supposed to get my rough out tentatively by Sunday, so we'll see how well I do there.

Drawings.  I'm going to be posting some odds and ends pretty soon, however I'll leave my anatomy practice out.  It's embarrassing >.<  Female bodies are hard to draw, I keep using straight lines.  I have a good grasp of how it's supposed to look, but then when my hand goes to draw it...well, it doesn't end well.  I find that I haven't really been doing any art for myself of late.  It's usually for someone else, or of someone else's characters.  I should get back to drawing my own characters, but I'm feeling distanced from them.  I probably ignored them for too long and now they're rioting.   I'm experimenting with various styles.  It scares me that I might lose my own style in the process.  Always worried about that.

...I think I ran out of things to say.  Hope you all had a good beginning to 2014, enjoyed Valentines day (or at least it's chocolates), and I dunno, like watching the Olympics, or not.  I just hope that everything is well for everyone.  Good luck and I'll talk to you all later.

Oh, final bit, it's :iconasakuramei:'s birthday today.  We may or may not be going to a movie tonight dependent on weather, and whether or not she feels like it.  That's still a form of weather though, isn't it? *shot*

I'm a tad late, but I've been working pretty much non-stop since Christmas.  Lots of itty bitty things to help out with world building.  It didn't leave me any time to actually work on my Christmas picture/comic.  The sad thing is, I'm damned near finished, I just need to figure out the first panel for both parts.  (I work backwards because I'm a backwards person).

I started watching a whole bunch of new people over the holidays, pretty excited about that.  Got some new watchers too, also exciting.  My Christmas Cookie picture got some love, always happy to see that my sketches are enjoyed.

I've made a new year's resolution to complete ONE, just ONE, of my projects.  I'll try to figure out which one will deserve the attention.  ^^;

A small question, although asking it in this journal is a bit moot, do you want to see more sketches or just wait till I have more completed works.  I'm always worried that I'm alienating people with my quick and messy sketching.

Hope you all had a wonderful holiday season, and I look forward to seeing all the new works that you will put out in 2014!

I'm working on concepts for a Christmas themed comic that will, hopefully, be done in time for the holidays.  I'll be out at my sister's for the holidays leaving me without internet from the 20th to the 26th, so I have to get the comic done by the 20th.  That will allow me to post on schedule for Christmas.  Also in the works is a lot of world building.  Future of the world is at stake...not really, just saying.

Not much more to add here.  Posting of artwork will be a little slow until obvious obligations will be completed.  Sorry for any inconvenience.

Between Wednesday and Thursday morning my mailbox was broken into in my apartment complex.  Stolen from the mailbox was mine and my roommate's cheque stubs, which contain such vital information as our Social insurance Number is on them.  Pretty important number to be stolen, as with it you pretty much own a person's identity.  After finding out that our mailbox was broken into, I began to initiate all the little things to resolve it.  Rich went out to check to see if our stubs were returned to sender, I contacted our landlord and informed them of the mailbox break in.  I contacted Canada Post to make sure they were aware of the situation, and told them to suspend mail service until further notice.  I called both of my credit card companies to inform them to look out for possible fraud, and hoped for the best that our stubs had been returned to sender.  That was on Thursday.

Today, I get a call from our local post office, telling me that they're going to hold my mail.  I informed them that I already talked to them to stop my mail, but they didn't listen or something.  Regardless, NOW it is halted until further notice.  I asked them if our stubs were there, they stated that the mail had only been halted today, meaning, that the stubs were indeed STOLEN.  Now, after that, I called TransUnion, a credit bureau that is in both Canada and the United States.  After talking to one of their fucking useless customer service providers, I was sent to their shitty automated service, which through the fact that automated service used words that I was unfamiliar with, would not repeat certain things, left me actually FAILING my authentication thing.  I got a little pissed off, and then called back to try again.  This time I got my fucking answers right and a watch was placed on my identity.  Hopefully, that will be enough.

In unrelated news, though by emotion could very well be related, Microsoft has seemingly gone out of it's way to piss me off.  A known issue with Skype that has yet to be addressed in the past 8 years, continues to plague its newer incarnations.  A problem that persists and gets WORSE each new edition that comes out.  Fix your fucking problems.  Onto Windows 8, of which I have the unfortunate "pleasure" of having to deal with it for the past 6 months.  It has blue screened me 8+ times in that time.  This is a far cry from their lauding it as the most stable OS they've put out in recent years.  The frustration came to a head last night, after many disconnects and bullshit from Skype, that it blue screened me in the middle of finishing up a drawing of which I was 100% satisfied.  Having a completely satisfying picture stolen from you because of this bullshit can cause those of us with rage issues, to have it flare its ugly head in such a way that you curse the existence of every last Microsoft employee, and have all the intention in the world to blow up their headquarters and then systematically kill every last one of their misbegotten, useless employees.  This, eventually, passes.

Or so it seems.  To "combat" the issue of it crashing, I decided to "upgrade" to 8.1.  This took 2 hours to get it all set up, it saying repeatedly that it was done, when it wasn't, and then restarting eight million different fucking progress bars.  After it was installed, it changed a bunch of my features which annoys the hell out of me.  Eventually, I'll get everything all happy and sorted, but some things...ugh, just really annoy me.

So, with any luck, all of these things will resolve themselves.

Have you ever had one of those "things" that no matter how you attempt to tackle it, it just doesn't go right?  Currently I'm having two of those "things".  The first one comes from my choice of perspective/pose on panel 2 of the first page of my comic.  It's frustrating that after twelve or so redraws, neither myself nor AsakuraMei could get the original pose to work, as such, I relied on her to redraw the panel and I'm happy with it.  The next course of action is actually lining the damn thing.  The second "thing" is Guided Fate Paradox.  I'm grinding my way through the beginner's dungeon, (all 50 levels) and I get to the deepest part to fight the boss.  I think, no problem.  I have full health, I knock him down to about his last 1/4 or 1/3 of health and he OHKOs me.  (One-Hit Knock-Out, for those unfamiliar with the term).  I get that he's a tough mofo and all, but I should have been fine.  I had 11k+ HP but I guess my defense isn't as high as I thought.  Ah well.  The saddest part of that fight was the fact I lost all my hard earned items.  +19 two star gear (for the most part, my weapon of choice was a +13 three star claw).  I guess I'll have to suck it up and sacrifice 400 levels to get that revival stone.

In rather unrelated news, but happy none-the-less, :icontsukesenpai:'s manga won the contest he entered it into, thus catapulting him to the rank of "published author".  You should probably go read it, give him some congratulations, and support him when he endeavors to do chapter 2.  From the title page you can use the link in the description to read the first chapter.  Title page is there-> :thumb411003520:

So, it's Halloween.  I have tons of candy, but I'm not sure if the kids in my building will be coming by.  For the past almost eight years the only time I've had kids come by was when I had no candy (Murphy's Law, I suppose).  In other news, on the 24th of October marked my 8th year on DeviantART.  I'm working on a Halloween picture but I am unsure whether or not it'll be up in time or not.  Well, back to work for me.

AsakuraMei's Royal Flush Halloween 4koma series is almost complete!  Congratulations to her for working so hard on her project for the past month, despite difficulties (creative and otherwise).  I'm proud of you kiddo!

I'm not sure how many of my watchers are 'active' anymore, and to a lesser extent, who really cares about whether or not I update, but I figured I might as well tell everyone what I'm doing.  So, since about mid-July (I guess) I have been drawing a lot of concept art, nothing really worthy of being on dA or anything, but it's a step in the right direction.  For the past two years I've been sort of doodling, not really giving my art time to get better as it's been too stressful to bother drawing anything serious.  I've recently attempted to reconnect to my artistic spirit in my usual ways- build an RPG, get it ready for play test, post on the Aserra forum in a feeble attempt to sustain some amount of intellectual stimulation (of no fault of the other players, mind you), and go back to my roots as a comic artist.  That means traditional art, mainly pencil.  My recent escapades can be seen as the last thing introduced into my gallery.  Following the drawings I tried to figure out which of my many comic projects would be the easiest for me to return to and which I'd most enjoy drawing.  I came to the conclusion that my Lei Comics (still no name to give them right now, fuck I suck >.<) would be the easiest to pick up, retool and produce.  So, I'm working on storyboarding the reboot of the comic series that I worked on so long ago.

At this point I'd almost like to write up some backstory for the comic to get people interested in it, but I don't really want to bore people that don't want to read that much.  So if you don't want to read it, skip till you see bold.

The Lei comics started as a continuation of sorts to my long running game system, originally devised as a spin off to the Chaos-Ether Wars storyline featuring the main character of the Chaos-Ether Wars, Seth Marrow, as a friend and fellow student to unlucky possessed girl Yumi (who had very little involvement with the main storyline of the C-E Wars), it took on new life as the character Lei was introduced.  Lei was created as the protagonist to an RPG Maker game I was creating in my late teens, the story of a young half-elf that went off to save the world after his mother and people were brutally murdered by the demon knight Kazak.  Well, saving the world was really a secondary idea, as his main motivation was revenge.

Around 2001/2002, I decided to reintroduce and revamp the Lei/Yumi/Seth connection by having my constant role-playing companion, and roommate at the time, Mike J. to play a member of Lei's tribe, who was seduced by the power afforded to them by the demon Kazak, eventually becoming possessed, and later reforming their identity as Kazak themselves.  With very little guidance the semi-heroic character that Mike played fell from grace, kept his other side well hidden from his character's wife, and murdered his ex-flame as well as his best friend.  The seduction of his character by the Kazak spirit was rather easy: insecurities within the character itself were played upon by a drive to feel needed, wanted and in control of the power that he felt he lacked.  Somewhat jealous of his (character's) friend's power, Mike's character strived to get stronger than his rival/friend.  Even armed with the foreknowledge of Kazak being the impending doom of his own people, Mike's character began to fall into the trap that anyone with a nearly pure heart dealing with demonic power thinks of: "I'm stronger than it.  I'll control it and use its powers for good."  As expected, that didn't go quite as well as the character would have liked.

As a player, Mike was glad to be free of the yoke of constantly playing "Lawful Good" characters, and the idea of immersing himself in the slowly decaying morality of his character, eventually outstripping his demonic counterpart in savagery, and I was more than happy enough to play along, allow him to really enjoy the role, give him his moral challenges, watch him taunt little Lei after the latter's entire world was destroyed single-handedly by the Mike-Kazak partnership.  This helped shape little Lei and his decisions (of which the conclusion of the game was never written, so it was open ended how this all would play out) and finally come to the final confrontation of Lei and Kazak, ending with the death of Kazak (and victory for Lei).  Lei's decision next is what shapes the world that the comic takes place.  Rather than spoiling it, I'll leave it to the comic to play out.

So, with the death of his character, Mike and I set up to continue with the soul's story.  After a stint as a dead spirit, Mike's character was reincarnated.  His character was given the chance (eventually) to return to Lei's world and see what his legacy had cost him.  This character was a chance for Mike to, in a sense, feel how hard the road of redemption was, and the weight of his previous incarnation's crimes affected everyone around him, and he, himself.  He was reunited with a lot of the people from the previous incarnation, and met with mixed emotion.  Some were glad to see him, others were so wounded by his actions that they wanted nothing to do with him.  His previous incarnation's children were especially prominent in telling this story, and quite a few times brought a lot of emotion to the table.

In Mike's character's third incarnation, his character, now absolved of all the sins of his first incarnation began to realize his character's importance and place in the universe.  This allowed him to return to Lei's world, one last time, to interact with it at it's comic incarnation's timeline.  As such, his character was allowed to meet with and interact with Yumi and this incarnation of Seth Marrow, as well as the ghost of Lei.  After that, the storyline seemed to go nowhere, as Mike seemingly lost interest in playing through any further interactions with that character.  As such, we shifted systems, and moved on to his next character.

After coming to dA, I decided to put my ideas into comic form, as it was the most appropriate medium available to me at the time.  I kept with the timeline that was solidified by Mike's character, and started the storyline with Lei and Yumi's first meeting.  After a short time posting pages for the comic, I began to lose interest in keeping it going.  This came about due to any number of reasons, I was kind of in a bad place.

tl;dr

Now, 7 years after the project's abrupt end, I plan on retelling the story and continuing with it.  While long-time watchers will have heard similar things from me before, I have a new weapon in the war against ending my involvement in my own works, confidence!  No, not really.  Actually my secret weapon is my friend AsakuraMei as we're attempting a partnership.  I'll keep her on task towards doing her Royal Flush comic, and she'll help with keeping me on task as far as my Lei comics.

Thanks to those who read it all.  Feel free to pester me with updates if you're interested in seeing the comic start/reboot/continue, as the more people counting on me, the more I feel that the project deserves my time and effort.

Hello all.

So, what's new?  Not a lot.  Life has handed me lemons for the past two months, I've made so much lemonade that I think I have a slight hate on for that little citrus fruit.  I started drawing again (yay!) but it gets frustrating after attacking the paper for two to three hours and getting nothing "usable".  Do I want to pour sketches after sketches after sketches into your inbox? Not really.  Eventually, when I have a finished product, I'll upload it.  Or if I find a sketch page that I actually like.

:iconasakuramei: and I have been (every now and then) working on character redesigns for Megami High!/Project SKKS.  Since it's still pretty much just sketches being sent back and forth, there's no real need to show them quite yet.

That's all for now.

Hello all who still watch this stagnant channel.  Been unable to draw since the last time I updated something, so I guess it's an art-block, or something to that degree. I piled up so much debt heading out east for my trip to AN that my financial situation is still kinda murky.  I overspent by about $900 when I was there, so that was joyous.  I guess things are starting to get back to normal, seeing as I've had about four months to recover.  I'm having a rather mellow day, so that's good.  I apologize for either A) my lack of presence here, or B) my quietness.  I won't give you excuses, since I don't have any.  I'm mostly just lazy, and when not lazy, unable to think of what to say.

Recently two of my sisters got married.  My eldest sister Jen got married on the 25th of September, and my younger sister Bari got married...sometime in June.  I'm a horrible person and I forgot the date...even though I was there.  I know it was somewhere near the end.  My youngest sister Jes had a kid, named her Sunni.  Not sure why...the name, not having a kid.  Sunni's a tiny little thing with red hair, like her mom was.  She likes sitting on shoulders, not sure why, must be so she can be taller than everyone else.  My nephew celebrated his third birthday last month.  Went to his birthday party.  There was lots of people though, especially little ones.  It made it really crowded, but at least we all had fun.  I ended up ducking out at the end and heading home.  I gave my goodbyes at least, I'm not an ingrate.

Thanksgiving for us Canadians was yesterday, which screws any travel plans I originally had due to the high volume of people traveling to see family on that day, and thus for the entire week surrounding it.  I had planned on traveling then, seeing some people I promised to see, but because of bad timing, it was unavoidably canceled.  Not that important, I guess, I hate traveling to begin with.

Coming up to my fifth dA birthday on the 24th (I think) of October.  Can't believe I've been here for almost five years...I've really done NOTHING in that time.  What a total piss off.

With that, I don't have much left to say.  Have fun, be safe, remember that trick or treating is not JUST for kids.  Don't toilet paper houses, that's tacky.  Remember that goblins and ghosts have feelings too, so don't go around making them cry.  Remember to tip your server generously (10-20% dependent on service).

Well, I'm off to AN today.  Two and a half days by bus to get there, and another two and a half days back.  I'll be gone for a week.  I'm pretty nervous.  Well, with any luck I should be back in one piece...

Meghai

That's the update as of now.  I haven't really worked on it for a couple days.  I despise the toning process.  I'm beginning to think that perhaps I should just ink and text the comic, and leave toning for when I feel like doing something monotonous.

In completely other news, in a rare possibility (because I hate planes with a vengeance) I may...MAY be going to Anime North this year.  The budget seems good, the main hold up right now is the anxiety.  Five months away and I'm already overly nervous.  Not to mention, first plane-flight ever.  Huge thing there.  Well. if I decide to scrap the toning process I can probably commit to two pages a week easily.  Ugh.  If you guys wanna chime in and tell me either yay or nay on this toning thing, it'd be appreciated.  Anyways, tired = bed = nowish.

Edit: redid last panel, tell me what ya think

So, I can only fathom some sort of excitement coming from the masses that watch me, (lo, so arrogant am I) and so to appease the ravenous beasts that bay and snarl at my doorstep, that salivate in utter delirious anticipation, I offer you this humble sneak peak at the cover for the first chapter of Megami High!  Mind you, large sized previews ahead.

Meghai
The roughest of sketching done.

Meghai
The inking process started and a second sketch adding clothing to the mix.

MegHai
The almost finished inking stage one.

I hope you all enjoyed your little sneak peak.  When the title page goes up, pages should be added, once a week (maybe twice a week if I'm feeling ambitious) on Mondays (and Friday if again, I was feeling overly ambitious).  Thank you all for sticking with me through my massive lull period.  You guys are an inspiration, you really are.
