Two custom Kitsune (Japanese fox-spirit) masks. These were fun because the person who commissioned them did the commission the right way by sending me photoshopped images of my kitsune mask design, but with custom markings. That makes things SO easy for this mask artist, people. I can't explain how happy it makes me when a photoshop-proficient person orders a custom mask. No guess-work involved. They're a super-cute pair of kitsune, I think.
As ever, this is hand carved and hand shaped 8 ounce veg-tanned leather. It's wet-formed by hand, set with heat, and painted with Liquitex acrylics.

Okay, I'm really confused here... Why is it that people always put markings on not just the masks, but in their art in general? I mean, I'm not complaining or anything, but I'm just really confused. I see it all the time, facial/body markings... Hell just google "kitsune" as an example, and the first image is a pure white kitsune with red markings on its face, and all I can think of when I see this is ōkami! A couple more images down the line, and you have the same kind of concept, but this time the markings are full body (reminding me even more of ōkami...), and the markings were black. Can somebody just explain why people do this? Did I miss something? I know you really aren't the best person to ask, but I'm hoping you can shed some light on this, or at least point me in the right direction of who to ask...
Happy new year, by the way. Also, these masks are awesome!
