Description
A client requested a custom mask I'd never made before: a "hamsa" hand. I was intrigued so I took it on even during my crazy-busy season. Glad I did because I'm really happy with this design, plus it looks totally dramatic when you wear it. Really makes a statement. Pretty sure it's going to be an attention-grabber at festivals, which is I guess the whole point.
The Hamsa is a multi-cultural symbol representing protection, good luck, various things in various religions.
Before anyone gets all twisted up about cultural appropriation (are people still doing that here? Is that still a thing? I've been avoiding social media BS so, I don't know anymore...), I'd just like to say that I had a "23 and me" genetic ancestry workup done and hey, I can definitely trace my lineage back on several branches to Hamsa-using cultures. So, yay science, eh? Gotta love science.
