Halfsteam Steampunk Mask by merimask Halfsteam Steampunk Mask by merimask
When I designed my "Fullsteam" leather steampunk mask (which you can see if you check out my gallery), I liked the elements on each side of the mask so much that I did two more masks with one side plain brown leather & one side full of clockwork gear elements. This was the right side of the "Fullsteam" design, so I called it "Halfsteam".

The gearworks were drawn from life...I used a German watch as my model. Everything is carved by hand & painted with Liquitex metallic acrylic paints.

This mask has been sold, but can be commissioned at my Etsy shop: [link]

as part of a celebration, I am featuring some of my favorite art that is in/can be considered an artisan craft. THis is one of the pieces I have chosen to feature in my journal! If you have an issue with this feature, please let me know so I may remove it for you. Thank you!

I am in love with this. The asymmetrical line down the face completely pulls me in (I, for one, do not like anything even).

The color pallet is awesome too. I like the light tones. All in all, I love!

I really like how this turned out; something about the very sparse flourishes on the otherwise utilitarian gears really works. What did you make it from?

love love love this one. great work on the gears, bevelling the edges on the gear spikes would have been a pain! gorgeous work once again. you inspire me still :)

Thank you!

Oh, there was no way I could have beveled the edges on those gears...I just carved them deeply & cleanly instead. It's hard to make something organic (leather) look mechanical so I was pretty nervous making these. The carving had to be exactly perfect.

I like this one best too...it's that point that follows the jawline I think. Really sexy & flows in an organic way even though it's machinery.

Thank you! I can't take credit for that, actually. The real watch had those etchings too. It is a turn-of-the-century antique watch & they really used to make beautiful things by hand 100 hears ago.
