Atypical Christmas

Centaurs do not have a stocking.
We do not wear boots when walking.
We do not remove our shoes.
So when Christmas comes--we lose.

Centaurs do not trim a tree.
We prefer to leave them be.
We think that they bring more cheer
When they'll live to see next year.

Centaurs, often, it would seem,
Get in fights with Santa's team.
Reindeer rattle on the garrets,
And find we had no spare carrots.

Centaurs have some issues dancing
So we show our joy in prancing.
But, perhaps, at Yule tide.
We will take you on a ride.

Still, we're merry, when we're able--
This thing started in a stable.
Some of us maintain, it's true,
He's for us--as well as you.

Gifts of food and quilts for heating,
Much to cover, lots of eating.
Things you dodge for fear of weight
We might quite appreciate!

So, come out, abide the weather.
We can celebrate together.
Take a walk in Christmas snows--
We just have six less cold toes.

Some friends of mine, who are very nice, and... very hard to ignore... Wanted their perspective shared this Christmas.  Particularly after they had to shake all those dragonets out of their chimney.

Very glad! There are poems about the merfolk, and dragons, too.

Centaurs are wonderful people to think about.

Nicely done. I used to be a centaur until I went to a raucous party and did a lot of singing and whooping. I wasn't half horse by the end of it.

That's pretty neat! And centaurs have LOTS of desert. They love sugar, after all!

And artists and writers who draw them so well, and treat them so respectfully--who KNOW them.  Among whom--most definitely you.

Well, thank you, my dear. Although, I dunno about "respectfully." As a person who loves horses, I still know they are hammer-headed joke machines, and - well - anything half human is still half monkey. :D

Much what they'd say 'bout humans. :)  Anything half centaur is still half-ape!

YUP. We should be pan sapiens, not homo sapiens.

I'm so glad you liked that.  In 'The Silver Chair' two centaurs take Eustace and Jill for a ride through a Narnian winter... an experience they both treasured past the end of the world.  Horses laugh very well, and are serious--very well.  Centaurs resemble them that way.

Why weren't you in my poetry class this year?  That's incredible, and I love the subject matter.
Nice work.

Thank you, very much, and you do some lovely things yourself.

Could you, would you in a box?
Could you, would you with a fox?

Such a fun and *very* apt poem!  Yes, only four toes, and they are *mighty*!

... and sometimes mighty cold, too!  Brrr!
