Hairy Caterpillar by melvynyeo Hairy Caterpillar by melvynyeo
Taken at night in Singapore forest.

Quote from en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caterpil…
Caterpillar /ˈkætərˌpɪlər/ is the common name for the larvae of members of the order Lepidoptera (the insect order comprising butterflies and moths).

As with most common names, the application of the word is arbitrary and the larvae of sawflies commonly are called caterpillars as well.[1][2]

Caterpillars of most species are herbivorous, but not all; some are insectivorous, even cannibalistic. Some feed on other animal products; for example clothes moths feed on wool, and horn moths feed on the hooves and horns of dead ungulates.

Caterpillars as a rule are voracious feeders and many of them are among the most serious of agricultural pests. In fact many moth species are best known in their caterpillar stages because of the damage they cause to fruits and other agricultural produce, whereas the moths are obscure and do no direct harm. Conversely, various species of caterpillar are valued as sources of silk, as human or animal food, or for biological control of pest plants.

I'm curious, how did you get the background to be solid black like that?

Its pretty easy with full flash photography. High f stops (F16) and fast shutter (1/160s) and low iso with render most BG black as long as there are nothing with 30cm or so behind the subject. Even during daytime, this setting with have black bg. Btw, this is only applicable to macro subjects as the flash are meant to light up subject in front.

And thus, the small creatures that crept behind the leaves and grass shows up.

I don't know a lot of insect related works here (probably because I'm too lazy to look for one) and I'm sometimes creep out by some of them but this one is worth praising. The angle in which the little critter was capture truly brings about the essence of the creature. Small, yet intriguing.

Photography wise, this one is good and marvelous.
