Steamed glass by melukilan Steamed glass by melukilan
I love how the colors turned out on this one! I was so scared I'd mess up.
Illustration for SP's adult fiction website. Watercolor with salt.

oo I should get hold of some tube paints I think, I've never painted with them before and I love vibrant colours. Thanks very much for the advice, I got hold of some Arches paper and it's mmm mmm lovely :D

Oh, certainly!

I've already sent the original to the person who bought it, so I can't check the paper type, but I'm pretty sure it was Arches 140 lb cold press, 9"x11", and I used a combination of Grumbacher and Cotman tube watercolors and an old Marabu watercolor set, which has a particularly nice blue.

Arches is usually excellent paper, and I like cold press best because the water soaks in, rather than skating over it. Tube paints usually give me the most intense colors, but I've found that I can rejuvenate dried paints by putting a big drop of water on them a few minutes before I intend to use the color, and letting it soak in and turn the color back to a paste.

oh wow...
...water color...
i think this shows what water colors are for
i have been staring at that hand for minutes now
i think my brain got stuck on it (to be honest there's not much up stairs at the moment-tired-but what's left working likes pretty things ohyesitdoes)
in all seriousness- the suggestion of the most likely nude state of the rest of the body pales in comparison to the fact that that hand is really pretty painted well - with just the hand i can see the glass
um... yeah. good job. :runs away all sheepish:

What did you use the salt for?

*grin* Thanks! I used the salt to get the texture in the paint up by his hand and down by his waist.

And actually, I do sell prints of this through the studio I belong to. Color prints are $7, and the studio paypal address is whip@plethora.net. [link] This is the studio store.

I wasn't sure if I commented before, so I'll do it again:
This is the most amazing watercolor I have ever seen. It speaks to me very much. Its a reminder that any moment in life can be made into beautiful artwork, even passing moments that we take for granted. I always used to make designs in the steamed up glass, and seeing this makes me realise the beauty we can overlook so easily.

I usually don't gush, but.... You're my favorite artist <333333

((And I just thought the emoticon was appropriate, I'm not actually obsessed XP))

Aww, thank you so much!

Yeah, that's one of the things I most like to portray - the beauty in the ordinary, and things overlooked. I don't do it as well as I'd like, but I'm working on it.

Oh, my GOD, this is gorgeous. I absolutely love it, all of it, everything. It's so subtle and yet so absolutely brilliantly orgasmic.... You make it look so EASY. ;o;

I've dabbled in watercolor, admittedly, and even learned the neat tricks about the salt..... But you make my past experiments look utterly failed. xD

I don't know what else to tell you, beyond the fact that it is so positively beautiful.... I was speechless for a few seconds, and had to stop and think for a minute before writing this comment. o.o;

You sprinkle table salt across the picture while the paint is still damp, and it makes the paint dry in the speckly patterns that you see on parts of the painting.

Thank you!

kinda makes you feel guilty, like you've walked in on his shower. >.< (i'm sorry! i didn't mean to!)

anyway, definitely favorite.
