I am sad to see the context of this. But I like that it acknowledges that the lack of darkness doesn't make things better. Because the darkness was born out a sense of self preservation, self defense. Yes it became twisted and turned into something horrific, but it wasn't born out of pure evil - just a need to destroy what it considered evil at the time.
