And at times, when Eärendil returning drew near again to Arda, she would fly to meet him, even as she had flown long ago, when she was rescued from the sea. Then the far-sighted among the Elves that dwelt in the Lonely Isle would see her like a white bird, shining, rose-stained in the sunset, as she soared in joy to greet the coming of Vingilot to haven.
Eärendil and Elwing were the parents of Elrond and Elros, and among the first of the half-elven. Together, they persuaded the Valar to overthrow Morgoth once and for all, thereby eliminating the greatest evil in the world. Because of their noble deeds, the Valar allowed them and all of their descendants to choose whether to be numbered as Elves or Men. Elwing chose immortality, and Eärendil chose the same for her sake. They never saw their children again.
