He's been here for awhile. A year. Maybe two. Every now and then I'd glimpse him in the corner, playing with a pocket watch like kids used to play with yo-yos. It glitters in the light.
Now and then I'd sketch him. Fast, usually, because he always looked like he was about to go somewhere. I shouldn't have worried. He has all the time in the world.
His name, he says, when he finally saunters into the light, is Nick. Robin mentioned that I was looking for male fantasy figures to pose for a calendar. Did he qualify? In the corner, Robin laughs. He's very, very busy checking out the Macy's online catalog. He thinks the zoom resolution on the women's lingerie is fascinating.
I assure Nick, several times, yes. I don't *only* draw men with pointy ears; and sorcerers (or whatever it is he does with all that magic and all those watches) qualify as fantasy as well. What took him so long to come forward?
He only smiles, and pulls out a pocket watch. It's beautiful, but even as I'm running a finger around the rim the face is changing. Small whorls of gold and and silver are entwining, making ever more complicated patterns, ever more beautiful shapes. He says, in a voice that is the low sexy rumble of mountains eroding, that he was waiting for me to be ready.
He was waiting for it to be time.
________________________ I really, really want to leave the full size version of this big enough for you tall see the details. If I start finding this stolen and reposted on other websites, I will downsize it and start slapping up watermarks. Savvy?
Hands and the background were referenced from photos. All else is me. Thanks to the folks over at Pixelbrush for their input.

Updated a few things about this that had been bothering me for the last year. Mostly changes to his face, and some evening out of visible brush strokes in the background that bugged me.
This piece is absolutely gorgeous! The art itself is very delicate and wonderfully detailed. He could easily pull off just the regular joe, but at the same time he has the features and qualities of a GOD!
Not only that, but your discription of the man was even more impressive. I was hanging on every word like it was air! I saw him, pictured everything you were saying. It's a beautiful image and great discription. I especially love the last quote of what he said. Just wondering, is he real?
It never ceases to fascinate me how things chain up in DA...one of the people I watch wrote a journal about how they got a random subscription, which led me to your journal, then your gallery. And I'll be checking out quickreaver after this. So amazing how you just end up finding new people so easily on here, just by wandering. It's almost like Bilbo's saying about roads.
My first thought upon seeing the title to this was "Man, I wish I had that"...second thought was of the Prince of Persia....and then I saw the piece itself. I think it's amazing, but you've already gotten so many compliments, just on the first page, that I'm sure I couldn't possibly say anything new. Other than perhaps the fact that I want those bracers, and the shirt looks cool too. I like the subtlety on the latter.
