Description
Today (5th November 2015) is the 6th anniversary to when I posted Char on the internet. While I do not know the exact day and month of his creation, I've decided to celebrate both on this day as I do remember it was around the later half of the year. It was hard to not draw Char cross-dressing for the sneaky disguises thing but I needed to show you his human design.
A little history:
I'm going to be completely honest with you guys, when I first made Char...I hated his design. He was essentially meant to be a demon. Yellow, red and blue/green were his colours. Basically the design of Vulcan but different colours. But that worked because I needed a villain to hate for that old "Animon vs Volcanon" plot I was working on back in 2004. While the plot was changed to the war only being on Volcanon now, Thunderstar (Extaria) and Char's rivalry continue to this day.
So anyway, around the end of 2006 I think it was I stopped drawing Char and drew mainly fan-art which lasted until 2008 when I started doodling designs around again in books and re-found my old passion for designing creatures but it wasn't until 2009 when I started to actually put proper efforts into designing again.
It was around that time between 2008-early 2009 when Canibull, Flizone (Castle Coalition then) Psybito, Arcon and Shaycano (Rising Resistance) were made and the plot of the war (ARC 5) went to them but I needed more characters and so I brought the planets Animon back into the game and added Ponchon (As you can see I was originally going to end all planets with "on"). So that brought back Thunderstar and Char but I called him CoalChar at the time as a sort of disguise (because plot).
After that I went back into drawing fanart in which my old Deviantart account was born. Then Flipnote came out and well a small screen was tough to draw my characters and the easiest was to do Thunderstar. Then I introduced Char fav.me/d7sr0bz and here you can see where the designs for him took off. :thumb278640189:
People wanted to see more of Char, so I kept developing him and gave him a basic bad boy type personality that I kept developing as well. He's become a bit more mellow now I think. My characters that I had already made influenced each other and that's how all of my designs have been born. It's the same with the story, one idea influences another.
I want to encourage you all to try that one day. If you're ever stuck, read over everything you've done so far and something may spark in your mind. Eventually it all will come together. Arc 3 and 4 of Char and Tessa was inspired by an old comic of a human character hanging out with dragons back in 2001-2003 because I used to be obsessed with them back then and I never felt I really fit in despite having a lot of friends (ARC 1 and 2 there). Bits of life inspired these stories and I just kept taking it further, changing them around to see what worked best etc.
Working on Char has kind of become like a therapy thing. I guess he's always been more than just a character to me.
Then Jay came along, and he's essentially the personality of Char in real life and it all started out the same way of me not liking him but something kept drawing me to him until finally I gave him a chance. We even had the same story about Char, with minor differences. It's really funny when you think about it.
Maybe the worlds and characters we create are memories of our past lives?
Despite my possible descent into madness because of this character, I hope you all stick around for the future of Char. What I am hoping for is that the series will help others the way that Char has helped me.
Anywho, made in Adobe Flash and put together in Photoshop.
