Actually some of my first thumbnail sketches for this included a little boy (but with a bucket and fishing pole instead of flowers) but I ended up going with this composition instead. I might try a new illustration with this character in the future, thanks for the suggestion!

I love the slight blur on the view beneath the water, but I also think that it would be cool to see a slightly sharper foucs above the surface. In its entirety, I love this piece.

I like to think there is a difference in the same ways that freshwater fish differ from saltwater. More muted colors, slightly smaller perhaps....I dunno. Thanks for the comment

I'm sure their skin and breathing would be different too. It's interesting you said muted colors (and even used the word "muted") and stuff like that. I wasn't even thinking about their appearances. I was just thinking about chemistry!
