His parents are abusive, that's simply it. Even if Dani was not cross dressing and was straight, his parents would still find an excuse to hit him, it's that simple. At least Kevin's/ Shay's mom tries to be tolerant at the very least, Dani's parents don't even attempt to understand what he is going through.
